One person arrested after car hits Downing Street gates

  1. Obviously we don’t know anything about the motives yet, but it’s pretty hard to crash into the Downing Street gates by accident.

  2. They drove a compact car at the gates at about 3mph. I doubt it even chipped the paint.

Seriously unlikely this is anything sinister. At worst, this is a very ill-advised protest act.

  3. This is fairly minor but I fully expect a good portion of the media to go wild with this.

Until further details emerge though there is no point in jumping to any conclusions.

  4. From the BBC article:

    >The force said he had been arrested by armed officers on suspicion of criminal damage and dangerous driving.

Something mildly funny that that’s all they have arrested him for.

  5. If that had happened in the US, say to the White House gates, I’m sure that car would’ve ended up riddled with bullets within seconds.

Instead I’ll await the news that our armed police calmly told the driver, “You can’t park there, mate.”

  6. It makes a change for a member of the British public to crash Downing Street, rather than Downing Street crashing Britain.

  7. Man slowly rolled his car into the gates. ITV reporting this now blowing it out of all proportion. This is insane he barely scratched his car or the gate. Demented nation.

  8. ” It then crossed Whitehall, near the Cenotaph, before abruptly **breaking** and then driving forward directly into the gates of Downing Street.”

Typical Kia, I wonder what broke to cause this? Not great for their PR

  9. Just seen the video and it doesn’t look like a high speed crash, more of a coast up and try and push the gates open

  10. >It then crossed near the Cenotaph, before abruptly breaking and then driving forward directly into the gates.

What? It snapped in half? All the doors fell off?

Mass news media gets shittier and lazier by the day.

  11. Looking at the photos of the wreckage it was not going fast at all, looks like it more likely drive up to the gates
