Despite shortages: Up to 20,000 empty homes estimated to be in Luxembourg’s housing stock

  1. Pure incompetence (or conflict of interest) from politicians to create regulations in housing. They just want imported slave labour to run economy.

  2. But let’s continue to build more shoe box houses everywhere that effectively ruin the landscape while letting those empty homes fall completely apart over time -.-

  3. are you suggesting that property rights on basic life necessities are in the way of humans having a decent and fulfilling life ? That is the first time I heard that actually

  4. *for little things like hairdressing*

That parking space in the city that allows the owner to go to the hairdresser once a week?

  5. >there are no official figures for the number of empty homes

I wonder why there are no official figures? Would the number be too embarrassing… not that the politicians here ever seem to get embarrassed by anything they do (or more accurately fail to do)

  6. The construction in front of my apartment has been at stop for a year now, in a fancy district, I’m gonna venture that things are not well in the real estate world

  7. It is probably about 10 or 15% of all the homes in the country. Considering the huge amount of people leaving and entering in the country this number looks reasonable to me.
Can people imagine what nightmare it would be finding a place to rent if only let’s say 1% of the homes were free.
I understand the frustration around housing and rental prices but people should remain rationale. A lower % of free homes would actually put a lot of pressure on rental prices and would massively increase the difficulties for finding a place to stay.

  8. Probably more like 30-40k if you ask me. If you count all the places developers are currently not finishing because there are no buyers, you get there for sure. Almost 1 out of every 5 places looks empty. Not even mentioning the under occupation of a lot of places (old person living solo in a big ass house type).

  9. Has someone actual data to understand if the % of vacant places here is substantially different from the rest of the developed world?
