Who did Turks in Europe vote for? [OC]

  1. So I’m guessing the ones in Muslim countries voted for Erdogan because of his Muslim LARP and the whole burnt quran episode.

Am I paranoid to think that the ones who live in the richest countries voted for him partly because they want him to keep ruining Turkey’s economy, so their European money has more buying power over there?

  2. What a coincidence that Germany, Netherlands, Belgium, France and Austria had many Turkish guest workers. They are at the 3rd generation now.

  3. Title is misleading. Not everyone in Germany voted for him.

Most of Erdo voters in europe are old generations or their relatives.

I have over 30 friends around europe (all of them are white collars) and none vote for him

  4. What I understand about the Netherlands, most people who are eligible to vote in the Turkish elections don’t exercise their right to vote.

It’s only a quarter of the Dutch Turkish population who vote for Erdogan.
It also has to be said that they mostly come from economically deprived areas from Turkey, where living standards have improved over the past twenty years.

  5. Countries that accepted uneducated villagers as guestworkers vs. countries that get Turkish immigrants selectively

I don’t know what is going on with Norway but if Turkish people living in Europe are so happy with Erdogan, they can go back and live in great Turkey. They have no right to make Europe a horrible place.

    Signed: A Turk in Europe

  6. In Sweden, many voters are in fact ethnic Kurds but simply have Turkish citizenship. There are a *lot* of Kurds there, often from Turkey. If it were only ethnic Turks voting, then I suspect Erdogan would’ve won the diaspora vote handily.

  7. altough i also find it strange that Turkish people living in Europe voted for Erdogan, it wouldnt have made a difference in the outcome. The majority of people in Turkey want Erdogan to be their president, so be it. Thats the definition of democracy.
