Hej Sverige! Is this a scam? I’ve lived in Sweden between 2014 and 2016 but my Swedish is rusty and I don’t fully understand what they want from me.

  1. Look at the domain in the email.

Did they also give you a link to visit and you removed it from the picture?

  2. Hahaha, five mistakes that this scam has:

    * An authority does not write “dear citizens”. They tell you what you need to know, there are no polite phrases.
    * An authority does not write that they are ”happy” to give a grant. They only report pure information.
    * You apply for a housing allowance, it is not something you get automatically.
    * Authorities do not use one-time codes sent by e-mail, you log in with e-identification.
    * The e-mail address from Swedish authorities does not have “sverigegovernment”, especially not mixed Swedish and English

  3. Yeah obviously. There’s some pretty big things that just shows it’s a dumb scam.

They call you a citizen in the email, mostly because they dont know your name.

That they’ve checked your income. They dont unless you actually have a case with them you yourself started.

The dates also makes so sense, they’d check yearly income or a specific time frame on a monthly basis so none of this 24th of January to 24th something. It’s entire months not just partial months.

There’s no such thing a engångsbostadsbidrag. Also försäkringskassan doesnt email you to say you can get bostadsbidrag

The law they cite doesnt even exist, (1981:722) is actually a ordinance regarding amendment to the ordinance (1979:919) on the determination of holiday benefits etc. when changing employment.

You’re never given one time password? You’d always use bankID obviously…

The adress exists, but is the wrong one. Literally just a regular apartment building… Also they’d write it as “117 61” not “11761”

  4. For future reference: You will never get any emails like this from the Swedish government. Any form of mail will be sent either by normal paper mail or to kivra.

  5. Definitely a scam. If they contact you, it’ll be in paper form or through Kivra, and they will use your full name (forgive me if your name happens to be “dear citizen” in swedish). The language also keeps jumping between formal and informal in a weird way. The email address is another red flag – we don’t use “gov” in our addresses.

  6. If the government wants to give you money, you’ll see it in your account or you’ll get an “utbetalningsavi” in the mail. Any other way is a scam.

  7. A good way to figure these things out is to go to the website of whatever the scammer is pretending to be. And not go to them through links in the email, but Google it. It’s usually visible on the webpage if it’s legit.

Also, “dear” is a Word Indians use, which tells you in the first word that it’s a scam.

  9. Wow, that is actually a new scam I have not seen before, but it is a scam no doubt.

Swedish authorities dont write like that, they dont just give you money unasked(except for the onetime powerbill thing, but that was a political decision) and they certainly dont use such bad emailadresses,

  10. The address given in the email signature is a random block of apartments next to a tanning salon – not a Försakringskassan office. (Ontop of the other points that have been raised)
