If Phil the Greek were still with us then no doubt he wouldn’t have required much persuading to don blackface for the balcony scenes. Problem solved.
So 0.0119403% of the population complained.
Not exactly sure how that’s breaking news….
If they aired little Britain it would probably get more complaints
Pretty useless article. I’d like to see a breakdown of how many are “Down with the king, this shouldn’t be forced down our throat!” folk vs. “God save the king. How dare that commentator show such disrespect in not using the proper form of address!” sort of thing.
That’s like the number of r/unitedkingdom users active on average during the day. Coincidence? I think not.

13 million people watched it and millions more lined the street to be a part of it. 8000 complaints is nothing to get excited about.
I want to know what percentage was about his sausage fingers. I don’t think 1% of complaints is unreasonable. Even 1% is 80 people complaining about his horrible Richmond sausage fingers and that’s hilarious to me. God I wish I had the job of responding to those complaints…
“Ahead of the event, BBC Radio 2 also captured the atmosphere of the concert live from Windsor Castle, with Zoe Ball speaking to the performers”
Might want to send this one back to the fact checkers.
No one here so far has read this article.
The majority of complaints were about a black woman saying
> “We have gone from the rich diversity of the Abbey to a terribly white balcony”
~~somehow conflating a fictional show with reality.~~
The article makes no mention of a bunch of republicans phoning in saying “get this sponger off my screen.”
Edit: I’m dumb
Glad I wasn’t the only one who complained to Ofcom about the ridiculous pro-establishment bias and sycophantic presenters. We need to keep calling the BBC out on its its right-wing bias each and every time.
Somehow I suspect the venn diagram of Coronation viewers and people who would write a letter of complaint to Ofcom ‘furiously’ is a circle. As such I’m surprised it’s only 8000. Those must have been the people not invited to street parties on the day.
Adjoa Andoh comments were pretty ridiculous – Not worth a complaint to Ofcom, of course – But critique about the lack of diversity in a family is pretty fucking dumb.
Wish these same people had this energy to complain about OFGEM
Ok, but it’s not OFCOM’s fault we have a monarchy, I genuinely don’t know what people tuning in expected to see.
“Ah yes, and here comes the representative of the proletariat, wielding the sabre of equality, and yes, he’s swung it, the kings head is off, and now George Galloway and Jeremy Corbyn will begin writing out the redistribution cheques, and there’s Billy Bragg putting the stamps on the envelopes… and they’re posted”
Honestly, it’s just kind of pathetic. Sure, you and I don’t like the coronation. But you’re purposely clogging up Ofcom for no reason, making the workers there do more work for no reason.
Imagine looking at someone’s family gathering and complaining that there isn’t enough diversity.
I wish I had an ideology to do my thinking for me.
I just hope the Panorama ADHD documentary can beat that.
I can’t help it, but whenever I look at KC recently, all I see is Patrick Cargill.
Must be a throwback to my youth – he was on the telly a lot.
How many of these furious people also complained about the extra bank holiday?
That’s a fucking **mad** piece of writing, possibly the work of a gibbon with a typewriter
Tries to make you think it’s about the BBC (The Scum Mirror’s greatest commercial rival), but it’s actually about a dumb thing some actress blethered on ITV
I mean, The Phonehacking Mirror does go on to complain about the extent of the Royal coverage on the BBC …
Right above a series of links to Shitebag Mirror stories about the Windsors …
Obscene fucking Hat Party for an ungrateful old man. If he had a soul and/or a conscience, he’d feel a bit uneasy about spunking all our money away on his ridiculous fucking Hat Party while we’re starving and unable to afford access to our own energy.
But it’s not as if we can expect a royal to have ANY kind of sense of proprietary, perspective, introspection, consideration of others, grip on reality, understanding of money, self-awareness, nor even a sense of what’s right.
No no, we all just exist to fund their lifestyle and we ought to be fucking grateful for the opportunity to give them all our money. Right?
It’s a pretty bizarre thing to complain about. Ofcom really don’t have anything to do with the coronation itself. They don’t have any influence over who our head of state is or the ethnic make up of their family. They only get to decide whether something is appropriate to be broadcast, which, however you feel about it, the lavish coronation of the new head of state of a dozen countries is significant enough to warrant.
I suppose I’m technically a republican in theory, but I really can’t bring myself to give that much of a shit about the whole thing one way or another.
I get that the Adjoa comment would generate some complaints but what about the other 7800 complaints?
“…Queen Elizabeth son’s officially become the King of England”.
He “officially” became king the moment his mother died; coronation is just a celebration of that (becoming king, that is). And he didn’t become King of “England”—there is no such thing. And this is on a UK news outlet?!!!
8,000 people angry Terry Wogan isn’t going to receive them on Points of View.
I am not optimistic regarding the resolution of these complaints.
Were the complaints from nutters asking why the whole country didn’t prostrate themselves in the road in adoration?
8,000? When you realise there are 1 million illegal immigrants a year entering the UK you’ll realise 8k is absolutely no one saying anything
