PSA – be careful of ticks people. Pulled this guy out of my side after a weekend of fishing.
Q for the wisdom of the crowd: I think it was embedded and feeding for over 20hrs before I noticed it on me, unfortunately. Should I go to the doc today as I’m concerned about Lyme disease possibilty?
Also – check your hounds too! Removed 2 ticks from the Springer spaniel this weekend too 😭

Go to your GP and bring the tick (can place him between some selotape to keep safe). Bulls eye rashes are common but not always present following a bite. So its better safe than sorry to explain it to the GP and seek prophylactic antibiotics, under no circircumstances let them brush you off and if they seem out of the loop or wishy washy regarding lyme and ticks seek a second consult from a different Dr. Lymes is just not worth the risk tbh.
Yes, get to a doctor today
Keep an eye on the bite site for symptoms of Lyme disease: https://www2.hse.ie/conditions/lyme-disease/
You should be using spot-ons for your dogs, every 3 months. This will kill ticks that bite them. They can still hitch a ride into your house though so remain vigilant. Have your tick removers handy for people and pets and don’t panic, not every tick bite will give you Lyme disease.
Lyme disease typically comes from deer and other woodland creatures so you’re probably safe. Like go anyway for peace of mind but you’re probably grand. White vinegar is the best way to remove them. Don’t pull them or squeeze them, they will puke all their gunk into your open wound.
I fucking hate ticks. Little bastards.
I’d go GP, Lyme’s disease is no joke, can have some pretty devastating long term effects on you.
I’ve had two of these bites in the last decade or so.
First one I didn’t know what a tick was so I just saw it on my bed and left it on the bedside locker. lol
Second one was stuck onto my arm. Dirty things.
This is actually causing friction in a friendship of mine because I got called over the top for covering up and checking for ticks after walking in the woods.
The mockery is really grating on me.
Hope you’re ok OP, I would get to a doctor to be safe.
Lyme disease from ticks is a very real thing, and worse in some places than others. In the northwest (Sligo, Roscommon, Leitrim) there has been a huge increase in cases this year. Doc can give you a preemptive one-dose antibiotic that can help ward it off.
Lyme can also be passed in-utero from mother to child. Which is how my wife got it, and only got diagnosed when she was in her late 30s after decades of strange symptoms.
A course of intravenous antibiotics cleared them up.

edit: in-utero
I taut the red ones are more prone to carrying Lyme disease as they feed of the deer.
If you get Lyme disease, the site where you were bitten would develop a bullseye type pattern and may even blister. You will also prob feel very lethargic and have a very bad headache. If you have any symptoms, get to a doctor asap.
As someone who suffered with lyme disease, go see your doc and get an antibiotic prescription. Typically doxycycline or lymecycline for a week or two should do the trick. If tackled early, it’s simple to treat.
Not ever tick will give you lyme or other TBD’s, but it’s just not something I’d take a risk with.
Lyme disease is mostly born by the nymph form of the tick or deer tick.
Was it less than 2mm in size?
Still keep your eye on the bite if it reddens or swells go see a doctor there’s other tick borne illnesses besides Lyme that can be even worse unfortunately.
I live near old Lyme in Connecticut where the disease originated. My dog nearly died of it and I know multiple people that have the Lyme related joint damage and pain that comes with it, its no joke to get this stuff it stays with you for life.

Thanks for everyone who advised going to doctor. Glad I did for some peace for next few weeks at least 🙌🏼😁
Take Lyme disease v seriously- I had it & it was v unpleasant- I think I may have side effects but the knowledge here is v poor & what testing is done only works with up to 6 variants & I understand the are >40
