Germany Is Closing Half of Its Reactors at Worst Possible Time – BNN Bloomberg

  1. Germany used to be one of the leading countries in civil nuclear technology. But sadly, a country famous for its engineering became one of the most technophobe countries on the planet.

  2. No, you are not supposed to be worried or laugh at us. You are supposed to watch us lead the way ahead to a better world. At least that’s what my TV said.

  3. It’s really unfortunate the Green Movement is associated with some anti-science, anti-environment views.

We’ll need both nuclear power and GMOs if we want to make it through climate change, their stance is self-defeating.

  4. It’s a big problem now that the German green party in particular always had anti-nuclear as their biggest flagship in politics. It turned out this isn’t the bigges environmental desaster we are facing, but the Fukushima catastrophe gave them enough leverage to kill the power plants for good. The big parties played their part by promoting Russian Gas as a viable alternative, which also turned out to be a disaster. Now they have a pipeline to an erratic dictator and too few nuclear plants to compensate.

  5. It’s more than a little disingenuous to use the current energy prices as a pro-nuclear argument when they’re even higher in France. They’re also making it sound like Germany is replacing nuclear power with coal, which is quite simply not true.

This is literal propaganda, but let’s upvote it because it fits our preconceived notions of nuclear good, Germany bad.

  6. Why don’t we take all the nuclear waste and strap them to elon rockets and just send them into space while we get those rockets back for more yeeting.

  7. >The timing could hardly be worse. Power prices are near record levels across Europe, and Germany will need to rely on generation from costly gas and coal for another 20 years or so — before they too are phased out. Keeping the nuclear stations open any longer isn’t an option since that would require hundreds of millions of euros of investment, Koenig said.

Ah yes, Germany… That poor European country which surely couldn’t afford a few hundred million euros…

I check the bond market, oh Germany wants to borrow another few billion euros against negative interest rates…..

  8. Holy shit, German greens seem more and more like “waa waa, nuclear bad, shut them down now, waa”

I ubderstand their need for getting rid of nuclear, even if I disagree, but holy shit, that’s not how you do it.

  9. It’s OK Germany, just buy more gas from the Russians to make up your increasing energy deficit, while simultaneously asking Americans to protect you from Russian aggression 🤣

  10. A safe, reliable, large scale energy source and germany’s green party instead pushes for this, reopening coal plants as a necessity because they got a fright from fukushima (from which there were actually no direct deaths, and just one indirect). Nuclear waste is absolutely nothing compared to climate change. It’s small, storable, and recyclable. New SMR models and fuel storage has made the fuel even safer. Renewable energy needs to be alongside a static energy source that can fill gaps when the sun doesn’t shine and wind doesn’t blow. It’s either nuclear, a fuel that has life cycle emissions lower than even solar and wind, or gas and coal… All the butthurt Germans can down vote all they want, but it was an absolute mistake to shut down nuclear in the country. Instead, Germany is reactivating coal plants while Poland and the Netherlands are now building new nuclear reactors and will sell the energy to…. Germany.

  11. Do you guys not get bored by this agenda pushing? This is like the 2000th thread and comment sections wanking off to nuclear.
