Everyone is entitled to an opinion, but hiding behind a username to spread vile hatred should not be tolerated. Calling Maltese people “fu$$ing retarded” is not ok, nor is wishing that people get “blown up” because you disagree with them firing fireworks. Both these opinions might have merit and could have been validly voiced respectfully. Also let’s be honest you would have never said something like that in public would you because of the backlash and it bordering on legality. So let’s please grow up, being anonymous doesn’t mean you can be an asshole.

  1. You know what’s not OK? Fireworks after 11 pm.

And do you really think saying something like that is ilegal?

If someone disagrees with you, get over it and move on, crying here about it or about the legality (LOL – once again) doesn’t show the maturity you are speaking about.

Noisiest country ever, by the way

  2. This sub is just an online community of foreigners to shit on Malta, sometimes some Maltese join in too.

If you say anything positive about the country its met with disappointment that it isn’t failing as hard as they would like it to.

Fckn dense ass mofos wanting to be right about their own detriment.

  3. This sub is essentially just foreigners complaining how bad Malta is yet actively choose to live here lmao

Not that I agree with fireworks past 11 though

  4. Oh come on, let’s be reasonable, they didn’t literally mean it that way. People say a bunch of things when they’re pissed. Firing fireworks at that time is indeed a dick move and essentially disrespecting everyone.

  5. Haven’t you seen Maltese people also complaining about gas trucks , donut guys including fire works. Every one entitled to his / her opinion. And this is not only the sub where foreigners complain . Every country sub you will find people complaining about their country that includes foreigners.

I would always say , there are two sides of a coin. Again , I appreciate that you have the right to post what you want , in the same way the foreigners have right.

  6. In Malta I’ve seen people who can sleep inside a nightclub, I personally can sleep through fireworks and construction lol, unless they are right next to my block

  7. He’s saying that it’s fucking retarded to shoot up fireworks at midnight, not that Maltese people are retarded. You’re going on a rant about something that only happened in your head.

  8. I tend to agree that fireworks after a certain hour arent to my liking, especially the loud bangy ones. Could it have been written with more respect?, sure, fact remains that some people tend to get annoyed that ones’ hobby overrides anothers’ ability to rest properly at night. Guess i m one of those locals who shit on everything local according to some on this thread.

  9. If anyone gets blown up, it will be treated like any time a moronic 18 yo driving an overpowered white BMW crashes into a wall at 140kmh, killing 3 other people in his car :

    1) crying emojis. Prayer emojis.
    2) R.I.P thoughts and prayers to their families
    3) “fly high with the angels” “so young, so sad”

    What will not happen

    1) reform.
    2) enforcement of existing rules.
    3) any national debate about how fucked up this or that aspect of the national “culture” is.
    4) any form of consequences for those involved.

Nothing will ever change because nothing ever changes. It’s not the only country with this mindset. Everything is just very concentrated here.

  10. Other people have posted very valid rebuttals, but here’s mine, as a guy who has also posted violent shit.

The reason people get worked up a lot over shit on this sub is 99% because we’ve had enough of CONSTANT, PERSISTENT disrespect and what I call “Biebzobbizmu”. It is bred from a culture of not giving a flying fuck about the wellbeing of anyone but yourself. Loud cars, pollution, old people at the BCRS throwing garbage on the floor when their bottle doesn’t get taken by the machine (defeating the entire point of recycling), people gossiping with their neighbours from their balconies, youths blaring dubstep on the bus on a bluetooth speaker or having loud complaint sessions, I could go on and I haven’t even touched the political issues.

Everywhere has these problems, but that’s a cop-out, misery isn’t a contest. Someone has a right to complain about their food being cooked like shit at a restaurant despite there being starving kids in africa. Abroad, it’s certain neighbourhoods. For Malta it’s the culture.

Eventually, people just get fucking angry and yes, can threaten violence. It is understandable. Countries do it, with sanctions, trade bans and embargos and if that doesn’t work, you see that aircraft carrier off your coast? That’s mine, do the math.

When you’re faced with a culture of biebzobbizmu, don’t be taken aback when, after countless tries to resolve an issue peacefully, someone just wishes you dropped fuckin’ dead.

  11. People should first of all check who was shooting the damn fireworks.

Don’t be idiots and start putting this on “tradition” when it was a fucking cruise shooting the fireworks.

The backlash is absolutely cringe at this point and I feel sorry for people who invest a significant time into this argument.

  12. It was a tradition to sacrifice a virgin for rain. If a tradition is wrong there is no way around it. Fireworks a huge noise and air pollution that leave residue toxins; shot from fields from where Maltese crops are grown.

And they tell you but Maltese produce because it’s ‘bnin’. With extra pesticides and magnesium.

There are alternatives like laser or drones for fireworks that do not pollute as much

  13. The OP could have chosen any other post and he would have found ‘vile hatred’.

Fireworks as we know them now are not a ‘tradition’. Ask anyone over 70 whether they saw and heard what we see now, when they were children.

Apart from the constant, incessant noise, comments have not mentioned the direct deaths and injuries caused every year by explosions. There is also the huge problems of the air, soil and groundwater pollution caused by many of the chemicals used in fireworks.

Prof. Alfred Vella, a chemist who is now rector of the University led several studies prior to 2013 which showed that toxic metals were being deposited on our crops. These included hormone disruptors and carcinogens.

However when Joseph Muscat rose to power in 2013, Prof. Alfred Vella became quiet. It turns out that apart from his many jobs he was given a consultancy in Castille. We were never told what he was being consulted on, but remember that Joseph Muscat’s father is or was an importer of chemicals used in fireworks.

  14. Shoot off fireworks in the middle of a work/school night and this is just the language that inevitably comes out. Don’t take it so personally.
