EU calls for ban on Arctic oil and gas drilling

  1. In all likelihood, the rules and regulations surrounding the arctic will be set by 2 entities, the UN and the Arctic Council.

I would be less worried about environmental issues and more worried about militarization of the Arctic. It’s pretty much NATO nations and Russia.

Hopefully, the prospect of shared wealth will trump any urge for geopolitical face-off.

  2. USA, China, and Russia: “*Sorry, did you say something about not letting me do whatever I want? Watch your ass there, EU, lest it gets bitten*.”

  3. Amazing idea. Let the Russians have it, so that we can buy it from them later for a premium

  4. Only two EU countries have territory above the Arctic Circle, Sweden and Finland, and I don’t think there’s much oil and gas to found there. Greenland is not part of the EU, despite being a part of the Kingdom of Denmark.

This call is about as useful as Switzerland banning whaling.
