As an employee of the NMBS/SNCB, I can tell you thus happens more and more and the respect is disappearing rapidly. Sometimes it feels like people have no respect or consideration for each other.

I’ve done it once too 🫣 I sprained my ankle in a station when I got out of the train. I tried to walk further on it to my work but I couldn’t. I took the first train back home, took off my shoe and had it on the other seat. It was the only way I could stand the pain. I needed months of kine before my ankle was okay again.
I hope you can forgive me, but I think in that case, I had a valid reason…
Once I had to take a train somewhere, and it was right after pukkelpop (which I didn’t attend). This one girl was sitting like this as well, with dirty feet, and the train was filled to the brim. I just sat next to the seat she had her feet on, on the ground (people were standing next to the seats everywhere, it was that full). I was curious if she would actually keep her feet up. She looked me dead in the face with an angry look, and kept her feet where they were.
Seriously?
Another time there were two girls who had their big suitcases blocking two seats. Rest of the train was full. I asked very nicely if they could put their suitcases up, on the shelf, so me and my friend could sit. They said “no they’re too heavy”. I offered to help them, and said I was traveling to the last stop so I could help them take the suitcases down when they had to get off as well.
One of them sighed loudly. The other one said “just ignore her”.
Ooooh…kayyy?
I’ve gotten to the point where id tell them to put their feet down. If they don’t I’d start taking pics of their feet and their face and be…. wait for it…. inconsiderate. Creep them the fuck out with that shit

Install large video walls in every Belgian station and repeatedly show videos of how people use trains/metros in Japan or Taiwan. More population density, similar amount of wealth as Belgium. Yet, they can keep speckless order both inside the trains and on the platforms.
They prove that it can be done. We can too. Cmon people!
I think it starts way earlier than that. I teach middle schoolers in Brussels and they do that often in school with the school furniture. I think when they grow up they do this. I try to make them realise that chairs are for bums and sitting, while the table is for other things. Or make them when they sit on a seat they can have their feet rest on the floor. It’s a difficult thing to fight, maybe they were taught like that at home.
I’ve dealt with this at movie theaters. Fucking nightmare.
