  1. I believe they can only sentence based on the guidelines that were present at the time of the offence, i’m sure stabbing a 7 year old 37 times and throwing a brick at her would carry a much higher sentence if committed today…

Edit : Just read article would have gotten 37 years if done today (even that seems low) this murder was horrific.

  2. That’s the case where thousands of people in the UK and even dozens in his home town could have had the same DNA match, the prosecutors were able to bamboozle the jury with the prosecutors fallacy. The Police had previously decided that another individual was in fact the culprit, failed to convict him, moved on to someone else.

I don’t think narrowing it down to 1 in 28,000 men is possibly enough, that’s obviously numerous men with the opportunity to commit the crime, plus who knows who else could have gone there – load of conjecture in that prosecution – such as ‘he had to know here to lure her away’ and conveniently he knew her, but how are we supposed to know that he needed to know here?

  3. Absolute monster. Whilst I know they had to follow laws based in 1992, 29 years is still an absolute joke of a sentence. I hope there’s enough uproar that this sentence will be looked into, any idea that he could eventually be released is disgusting. I just can’t imagine what poor Nikki must have gone through.

  4. It’s really sad I have no memory of this case. Reading the comments by her mum, it appears when someone goes missing, we turn ultra judgemental and decide how much we care.

Reading it and it’s heartbreaking. Hopefully 29 years is the actual sentence and he lives in fear for every day of it.
