Belgian energy consumption fully covered by wind and sun for first time ever

  2. This has happened a few times before. Its always 1 or max 2 hours on a day where many factories are shut down. The total number of hours that renewables have been able to supply the whole country is still less than 10.

To go fully renewable we need this to happen every day at this time of the year and for many hours . Eventually we’ll get there but just the fact that this is news only shows how far we still have to go.

  3. [Close but not quite,](https://i.imgur.com/MZeYpPR.png) almost 2GW short at its closest time or a coverage of [81%](https://i.imgur.com/yceloTQ.png) at its peak on friday (not saturday, sunday or monday) at 13:00.

There have been higher shares on 13/05/2023 13:00 for example with 81,6%. Or 26/2/2023 13:00 with 85,1%.

They (the article and the minister) are comparing the average consumption on sunday with the peak of wind+solar on saturday.

  4. The key is to set a target in function of the well being of the planet, not in the increase of the benefits or the PIB.

Otherwise, even if we achieved full renewable energy consumption, we wont stop the climate emergency.

  5. Meanwhile in our street the panels switched off because of overvoltage 🙁 and it’s quite an annoying process to turn them back on

  6. You know, even if it isn’t 100%, it is pretty neat that a large portion of our consumption gets covered by solar and wind energy

  7. Energy consumption != electricity consumption.
Globally, electricity consumption is about 20% of the total energy consumption.
Kerosine for plains, diesel for trucks & construction machines, oil for machinery, oil for asphalt construction, etc… So at most we covered roughly 20% of our total energy consumption by wind and sun. Still nice, but you have to see it in its context.
