Moment Muslim activists storm Birmingham cinema screening of Bollywood film ‘The Kerala Story’ that has sparked violent clashes in India over claims it ‘destroys religious harmony’ and is Islamophobic

  1. I don’t know enough about the film to comment, but taking action into your own hands is never right. Especially when using violent intimidation to get your own way.

No mention of arrests made in the article I think, which seems to be the way when certain religious groups do this kinda thing.

If you really think this film shouldn’t be shown, there’s correct action to take. Storming buildings and trying to intimidate people isn’t how the UK should operate.

  2. Oh look, a certain group is upset by a work of fiction, which happens to highlight barbaric practices.

I had a Muslim colleague a few years ago who was taken to Pakistan at the age of 13 and forced to marry, the practice is nothing short of horrific. Child Marriage, just like FGM are practices which haven’t had enough attention.

  3. Oh for flip sake – if you don’t like the film then don’t watch it. If you want to protest against the film then do so properly with placards, banners and slogans – but outside the cinema in the public zone where more people will see that you do not like the movie.

    Two things:

    1. The movie is a complete work of fiction and has no bearing to real life and, therefore, there is nothing to protest about.
    2. The movie is a factually accurate dramatisation of what happens to people in some areas of the world and, by protesting against it, you are supporting the awful acts portrayed in the film

    Which is it?

  4. > The film is premised on the conspiracy theory of “love jihad”,[5] and falsely claims that thousands of women from Kerala have been converted to Islam and recruited into ISIS.

    > While the events portrayed in the film are loosely based on the accounts of three women from Kerala —Nimisha Nair, Sonia Sebastian and Merin Jacob — who converted to Islam and traveled with their respective husbands to Afghanistan to join ISIS between 2016 and 2018, the claimed figures are wildy inaccurate, being based on mistranslations, misquotes and extrapolations from misrepresentations of unrelated statistics.[24][25][6] Experts from the Observer Research Foundation note that less than 200 Indians had joined ISIS and that people from Kerala accounted for less than a quarter of it;[6] the figures posited in the film also exceeded the entire strength of ISIS.

    …so it *is* Islamophobic.

  5. The movie from what little I know is the equivalent of showing birth of the nation and expecting black people to not be in uproar, it isn’t just a hateful movie it’s a blatant attempt at propaganda by hinduvistas

The reaction may not have been acceptable but its perfectly understandable that Muslims would protest the film, I don’t know why everyone on this sub-reddit is so quick to damn Muslims over this

  6. 168 people 0 arrests only hits headlines in the UK most racist propaganda machine, they choose the word “storm” to keep their readers in constant fear of the other, other outlets that have covered the story only say disrupt screening, but saying disrupt isn’t as scary.

    People are allowed to protest

    This is a non story.

  7. This is a free country. People can watch what they like. If the British board have approved it, who are they to storm the cinema?

I googled this guy and he also recently got an injunction for protesting outside a Birmingham primary school and labelling the staff peadophiles etc for their LGBT lessons.

It’s obvious he’s very uncomfortable living in a free country.

  8. This is absolutely dog shit!!! You should be free to watch what you want. This isn’t middle east, people are free to make up their own minds. They don’t need an extremely aggressive, bordering implied violence protesters to dictate what should be their opinion.

Btw the climate change protesters, regularly protest atm and yes its disruptive but it’s never in this aggressive manner with clear implied further aggression/violence. Think everyone knows what’s occurring, its the same group of people who believe they have a right to overrun a particular countries thousands of years old culture and replace it with their own are doing their thing. This country needs to decide whether they want to preserve their culture/history or be overrun by this basically.

This kind of mentality/activity is literally what you expect from a child. It’s literally a childish mentality, if you don’t like something don’t watch it and partake in it, it’s that simple. This literally looks like a pathetic tantrum being thrown by adults.

  9. Disgusting – people still linking to the fucking Daily Mail website. So fucking angry that I inadvertantly clicked on that piece of shit.

  10. I had no interest in seeing this film, but now I need to see it to see what all the fuss is about.

  11. I find it fascinating we have violent protests about this movie yet no arrests but when there are peaceful protests about the king we have multiple arrests

  12. Is this really the relationship Islam want with the rest of society? Are we really to be expected to surrender in advance to every whim so as to not offend people who could just as easily not be offended by not going to the film that they don’t like?

  13. Here’s an unpopular opinion. Just let people watch the film that want to watch it. People will always download or stream it anyway. It’s not like what they are doing is going to stop those who want to watch this.

  14. You can’t really complain something destroys the harmony of anything if your response is violence, that’s like protesting a bad smell by shitting your pants

  15. Although I’m generally extremely wary of ‘Muslim activists’, in this case it seems this film genuinely is stirring up bs and conspiracy theories about Muslims, so I can understand the strength of feeling, especially with the dangerous way things are going for the Muslim minority in India under Modi and the BJP etc.

  16. As a Lebanese person in the UK I am always confused by why countries choose to adopt multiculturalism.

That route is so risky, it literally destroyed my country (although we had no choice as colonial powers thought a country divided 50/50 between Muslims and Christians was a good idea and it wasn’t) as well as the Balkans, it’s destroying India, and many other countries, heck even so close to home: Ireland.

Eventually all multicultural countries head towards separatism because similar cultures generally like to live together.

  17. Ban all religions. Adults believing in a magic man in the sky is always going to cause problems.

If you believe that you will believe anything

  18. Hilarious to see Islamaphobes walk the tightrope of ‘freedom of speech film should be shown’ and ‘violent extremists protest not allowed’ in this thread

  19. I just hate all religions equally. Can we just live in a world where you don’t tell me about your magic man in the sky that’s going to reward you with things only a 7th century peasant would wish for.

A world where you can believe what you want but keep it totally to yourself because who gives a shit.

A world where it’s ok to criticise of make fun of a believe without threat of violence.

There are places in earth where this is a reality. If you have so much energy toward this film. Why not go there and live. You’ll be happier, I’ll be happier and the world keeps turning.

  20. We have had to spend nearly 2000 years slowly getting away from religion last thing we need is some medieval shite creeping it’s way back in. (that goes for all of them)

  21. I hope that nobody watching or working at the cinema was assaulted and there was no property damage.

I’m no fan of this movie and so I decided not to watch it and to stay away from all venues showing it. All my desi friends in the uk feel differently to me or have relatives in the movie and decided to get tickets.

Despicable disruptive bunch of jerks, with a bit of luck the culprits will all end up arrested, subject to crippling legal costs and ideally banned from ever attending another cinema in the uk again for the rest of their lives. Plus having to do a few hundred hours of community service in some of the britain’s most deprived neighbourhoods.

  22. Nothing says “I value harmony” than storming a cinema. However, the movie is basically fascist-style propaganda, sooooo….

  23. Wahahaha yikes the Muslim victimhood is strong
Muh religion being attacked by the mean hindu’s sounds like you’re getting a taste of what you’ve been dishing out for years now
