  1. The Antonov An-225 Mriya (lit. ’dream’ or ‘inspiration’; NATO reporting name: Cossack) is a strategic airlift cargo aircraft that was designed by the Antonov Design Bureau in the Ukrainian SSR within the Soviet Union during the 1980s.

It is powered by six turbofan engines and is the heaviest aircraft ever built, with a maximum takeoff weight of 640 tonnes. It also has the largest wingspan of any aircraft in operational service.

Just one was built (in 1988) and it has the Ukrainian civil registration UR-82060.

The Antonov An-225 was initially developed as an enlargement of the Antonov An-124 to transport Buran-class spacecraft. After successfully fulfilling its Soviet military missions, it was mothballed for eight years. It was then refurbished and reintroduced, and is in commercial operation with Antonov Airlines, carrying oversized payloads.

The airlifter holds the absolute world record for an airlifted single-item payload of 189,980 kg and an airlifted total payload of 253,820 kg.

  2. I saw this land at Long Beach California once. I used to park my car near the airport while I eat fast food before work, and this giant thing comes over

  3. >Buran completed one uncrewed spaceflight in 1988 and was destroyed in the 2002 collapse of its storage hangar. Buran was the first spaceplane to perform an uncrewed flight, including landing in fully automatic mode.

    >The Buran-class orbiters used the expendable Energia rocket, a class of super heavy-lift launch vehicle. The Buran programme ended in 1993, after the dissolution of the Soviet Union led to funding drying up.

    Such a shame.

  4. don’t get me wrong i abslutely love this plane but i don’t see what he’s doing in militaryporn it is not a military airplane nor was it intended for military use

  5. Saw an An-124 (the smaller version with 4 engines) approach an airport once. Massive thing just sitting in the sky. Quite impressive.

  6. pictures really dont convey how huge that thing really is. Its insane that that thing can even fly
