This government doesn’t give a shit about truth or honour. They are in it for the grift, nothing more.
If the UK public votes these turds back into power next year, everyone living there deserves a Darwin Award.
Edit: spelling
I’m no fan of this dysfunctional government, but her comment was:
> “Our bathing waters are cleaner than ever before,” she said “The water is cleaner than it was in 2010. So, 93% of our bathing waters are excellent or good, that’s an increase from about 70% in 2010.”
Is that true or not?
Separately, articles that use random Twitter reaction as though it means anything can fuck off.
So far as I can tell bathing water quality IS improving.
Edit 3 : As is commented by others below. “Bathing waters” does not equal “rivers”. I see the misdirection now. Silly me for ever thinking otherwise.
Yes, but was she rinsed *IN* those oh-so-clean bathing waters?
She should be… although those waters can’t be more polluted than the ludicrous crap she spouts on a daily basis.
“Cleaner than ever before” is clearly a very stupid thing to say. Cleaner than 1,000 years ago? I doubt it.
Issue is that while she’s right, this *isn’t* an excuse to simply let water companies dump sewage because “it used to be dirty in the old days”.
That’s like saying we should go back to incredibly high death rates in childbirth or being unable to treat cancer “because well, that was the norm when I were a lad!”
For the health minister, hopefully she’s not rinsed on the aforementioned waters.
How is this woman still anywhere near any position of power?
She’s failed at literally everything she’s been in charge of, and doesn’t bind the fringe part of the party like Braverman does? Why is Rishi still keeping here around? To be a scapegoat?
Would she like to take a dip in her own constituency, then? I recall the Sexpress trying to say why swimming in sewage isn’t a bad thing.
Perhaps she should drink glasses of randomly selected River water every day, might focus her mind away from semantics and on to the real health consequences of pollution.
Even if your shit doesn’t smell as bad as it did yesterday I still don’t want to smell your shit.
if her statement is false, then there must be a time since the industrial revolution where our waters became cleanest – when was this?
There has to be an industrial era worst point and best point
But they are still terrible and the waterways are polluted beyond belief, and only getting worse as water companies dump sewage into them with reckless abandon.
Therese Coffey is a contrarian whose role in government is to obstruct and confuse. She’d argue black was white if offered her the opportunity to behave condescendingly.
Clearly Hutts have a different standard of cleanliness than humans.
Didn’t she say about 2 days ago, that she was sick of sewage being dumped in rivers. Particularly in her constituency?

Edit 1 : Seems that the government is not keen on granting bathing water status to [new sites](https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2023/mar/23/bathing-water-status-rarely-granted-england-environment-agency-lib-dems-analysis)
Edit 2 : Limits were tightened in 2015, recent comments from the head of the EA saying[ lots of progress made](https://www.gov.uk/government/news/97-of-english-bathing-waters-meet-required-water-quality-standards)
