What a location for displaying the past, the slabs of granite for gravestones, you can nearly feel the past…when i was younger we used to camp fairly close… Great memories…
Ballintubber abbey, continues mass for 800 hundred years. Burned by Cromwell , known as the abbey that refused to die in Mayo. Sorry I don’t have a photo.
“Still standing” – sort of…. Most of the 7 churches in Glendalough were rebuilt several times over their lifetime – St Kevins Kitchen https://www.loc.gov/item/2020682386/ like most of them got substantial repairs round the 1900’s by the OPW. It was still standing unike some which were rebuilt (using the original stones) but like all very old buildings it’s almost certainly been in some disrepair over the centuries.
Beautiful area too, my husband proposed in Glendalough.
I’m sipping on ‘Glendalough Gin’ right now. Who knew behind those walls they weren’t just praying, but making and drinking some of the most fabulous gin in the world!
Magnificent aren’t they.
Merry Christmas.
I feel very lucky that when I visited friends in Dublin this was one of two trips we took out of the city.
And the tiles are falling off my local swimming pool..
