Today I received a message from ing saying that they will change my current account to do basic which will result in 1.9 euro fee per month.
I want ask can they do that without me agreeing? This is change of contract I guess. Also do you have a recommendation about another bank which is cheaper?

They are notifying you of the change, and this will be included in the ToS.
Your recourse is to find a bank that doesn’t charge this fee. I have a basic Belfius account (Beats? Idk what it’s called since they changed their names to those weird terms) that doesn’t charge any fees for standard banking.
Ing is awful. Change asap.
Well, the warning was right there all along: ING = Is No Good
My partner and I have Keytrade for our gezamenlijke rekening, no complaints so far 🤷
Change to Argenta. Its free.
The price isn’t changing, the ING Lion Account has already been paying €1.90 since 2021. They are just changing the name.
Why is everybody complaining? Bnp is 3,5€ for basic account. Like most banks.. Argenta now still free as keytrade basic but we’ll all know that one day will change…
Oh and I was paying 1,9€ long before they integrated the basic Lion to this new one..
They notified you of the change so that’s the legal part done.
May I suggest keytrade bank as an alternative?
ING lost me years ago. Swapped banks for mortgage and left with everything.
Had that happen to me without notice. Had a free ing online account I didn’t touch for years, and there was still 22 Euro’s on there. But when I checked it for the first time in two years the balance was negative. They changed the free account for a monthly fee. When contacting the bank why I didn’t get a notice, they said: yes, because you have a free online account, you have to check everything yourself … so we don’t send any notice.
I didn’t even bother to argue, I just closed the account.
Run while you can!
Switch to Keytrade
“3 euro cash withdrawals” – for a moment I thought where can you only withdraw 3 euro hahaha
Go to Argenta. Free and straight forward. No cheeky little extras you “should have known or read about”
What’s the change? Already paying that for a couple years now with ING
go kbc if you have money, argenta if you want a free one
Just convert to our lord and savior Argenta.
Either party can change/stop the contract if needed, unless the contract says otherwise. *Eenzijdige wilsverklaring.*
Oh so this is the reason why they are moving to the “Do Basic” and “Do More” packs. To make the Lion account holders pay.
For my case, it would be more cheaper switching to “Do More”. I’m paying for the Green Account for around 4.50 euro and with the Do More switch, it will be down to 1.9 euro as long as there is a monthly deposit of 700 euro.
Without being hindered by any knowledge on the subject, my theory is that this is a long-term consequence of the rule change decades (?) ago saying that banks don’t need to have all of the money they lend out. Banks don’t need saving deposits as much as they used to, so they’ve turned it into another profit center.
We left ING for Keytrade for our common account. Free, you receive 5ct/transaction and you have a free Visa credit card if you make +12 transactions/year (so using it for your netflix subscription already makes it free).
Argenta is also free but you cannot link it to a paypal account. So that was a no-go for us unfortunately.
I also have a Hello Bank account for my small business, which is also free.
Those guys make me laugh more and more. I got the same :
– email sent June 05 with a start on June 01. WTF
– earlier this year or last year : “ your interest are now producing “ yep great they move from 0.01% to 0.3% fucking interest in a 11% inflation year and they dare to market that bullshit
Same mail. I have a mortgage there, so the last time they started charging for the Lion account, I did not have to pay. Guess they’re about to screw over everyone now. I will close both my savings and investment and VISA account there, so they’ll probably lose more money then they’ll gain from charging me €25 a year.
Also, be sure to look what the”Do More” account is. It costs €5 a month, unless you have your income deposited on the account: [https://www.ing.be/en/individuals/daily-banking/current-account](https://www.ing.be/en/individuals/daily-banking/current-account) , but it does not have all the ridiculous limitations the Do Basic account has.
It’s kind of scummy they’re not signalling this more clearly, cause a lot of people are stuck with ING cause of the mortgage, and are already having they income deposite there. All of those automatically qualify for the Do More account…
