I’m planning on spending five days in Jotunheimen and Jostedalsbreen in late July with two friends. We are planning on camping the whole time and will have a car as well.
Ideally we were looking to do at least one 2-3 night backpacking trip (we have tents so cabins aren’t necessary). We’re all pretty experienced backpackers but limited by knee problems, so wouldn’t want to do more than 16 km a day (closer to 11 is probably ideal), and while elevation gain is generally fine, there’s a limit to how much elevation loss we can do.
Are there any routes that you would recommend in Jotunheimen? I see a ton of day hikes, and a lot of 5+ day hikes, but not many shorter multiday trips.
I realize this is the prime season, so it would be nice to get into the backcountry and hopefully avoid some of the day hiker crowds.
Alternately, would be open to splitting that up and doing a 1-2 night backpack trip, and 1-2 nights kayak camping.
I know about the right to roam law in Norway, but how easy is it to actually find somewhere to pitch a tent in these areas?
We’re also thinking about doing a kayak/glacier tour in Jostedalsbreen and saw [this](https://www.icetroll.com/kayak-glacier/styggevatnet/) one. If anyone has any insight on this tour, or other suggestions for Jostedalsbreen, would be much appreciated!
