Bhumibol, the King of Thailand, lived in the canton of Vaud for 17 years. In his adopted home he experienced two strokes of fate which strongly impacted on his subsequent reign as a long-lived head of state.

Most Head of state, Army chief , Business tycoon choose Switzerland to retire…
He was here during his early life, attending school and graduated from UNIL.
TIL that Bhumibol had a glass eye.
This guy doesn’t even live in Thailand. He lives in Bavaria.
Still, thais revere him, it’s weird to me. I lived in Thailand for some time and his portrait is EVERYWHERE. Oh, and people stand up for a minute 2 times a day at a specific time as to show respect to the king… that lives in europe, not thailand: with their tax bahts.
