British foods awaiting protected status in Japan despite Liz Truss promise

  1. Really maximising those Brexit free trade deals then, tapping into those markets.

Edited to add; the EU got over 200 agriculture products protected in their 2019 trade deal.

  2. Not that it would make much difference, all the foods listed are stuff I *never* see in Japan, authentic or otherwise.

  3. The brilliance of Liz Truss opening up Japan to british cheese when 90% of their population is lactose intolerant.
10% of Japanese people are in for a treat!

  4. In the 11 years I spent there, I don’t think I ONCE saw a food product from Britain, granted this was when I was a kid. But based on the fact I recognised nothing when I came over here…

    Edit: correcting auto-correct

  5. Cringe… Japan doesn’t eat shitty processed foods en masse like we do, I doubt they give a single flying fook about a Cornish pasty lmao.

  6. Kemi Badenoch was saying that Brexit would still be a success on the front of one of the papers this morning (I forget which one). It is like they have to keep repeating this lie to convince themselves as much as they need to convince us.

  7. Most of that stuff the Japanese public are hardly gagging for. Most of these products are a niche of a niche in Japan.

And when they do make versions… well they usually aren’t very good. For example, our cheeses are not under threat.

They do make good whisky, mind.
