  1. His statement:

    >
Throughout my career in TV – including in the very difficult last few days – I have always done my best to be honourable and kind.
    >
I understand that ITV has decided the current situation can’t go on, and I want to do what I can to protect the show that I love.
    >
So I have agreed to step down from This Morning with immediate effect, in the hope that the show can move forward to a bright future.

I’d like to thank everyone who has supported me – especially This Morning’s amazing viewers – and I’ll see you all for the Soap Awards next month.

  2. I’ve not liked him for years ever since he was cold to Corbyn and all chummy with Boris (I don’t like the unfairness), and people have acted like i’m mad because he’s such a nice man on the TV. Finally everyone else is seeing things my way, I feel redeemed now

  3. Giving ITV’s statement speaks about “continuing [their] relationship” with him at the Soap Award’s and Willoughby also gave a reaction i don’t think they are aware of any looming news article rather than just ITV have decided to bite the bullet and buy out the rest of his contract to try and put all this past them.

  4. This is a weird one. No story has been released yet, but the usual nasty media trio have been running hatchet stories on him for two weeks now. Like it feels very personal and targeted. So either it’s a story they are waiting to break or they have gone for him for personal reasons…

  5. The guardian says “It comes after reports of tension between Holly Willoughby and the 61-year-old, with the pair reportedly “cooling” their friendship in recent weeks.”

But what has caused this tension? I’m assuming we shall find out in tomorrow’s papers. Got to be something do with either his brother or that young lad he had a relationship with on the show.

  6. Cue the usual Reddit obsession with him being a nonce.

Given his history I’m not saying it isn’t possible, but people on here do love to throw baseless accusations around.

  7. I said years ago I didn’t like him, he always came acroas as trying too hard to appear nice. It came across as very inauthentic to me.

  8. Look, I don’t know what’s really gone on.. but there’s clearly a reason Gordon The Gopher has refused to work with him for decades.

  9. Hollys comment seems cold, not what I would have expected since they seemed to have been so close for years.

Some shit must be going down

  10. “Someone I don’t know leaves something I don’t watch.”

Honestly, who gives a shit about any of this?

  11. This is fast becoming a bit of a theme for This Morning. Schofield was drafted in temporarily to cover for John Leslie during the Ulrika Jonsson scandal, I seem to remember

  12. I’m not sure how I feel about him leaving immediately after his brother gets convicted for child abuse.

It makes me draw a connection in my mind. But if there is no connection there (I don’t know either way) then that feels like a really harmful splashback situation. I’m reminded of when H from Steps (Ian Watkins) got hounded and death threats etc. sent due to being confused for the lead singer of Lostprophets who did CSA who had the same or a very similar first name.

  13. According to this comments section, he’s either leaving because he and Holly no longer get on and it was one or the other, and ITV picked the better, more popular presenter, or he’s a child abuser of Savillian proportions.

I’m sure we’ll find out more in the morning.

  14. Cheated on his wife with a barely legal colleague at work. Power dynamics between he and this young guy question how consensual it could have been.

Called a hero for coming out and continued to be paid millions. Forget the impact on his wife and children.

Oh, and didn’t speak up about the paedophile actions of his brother.

    Absolute bellend.

  15. Holly’s statement sounds very matter-of-fact and cold when you think how close they appeared to be and the warm, fuzzy facade they presented.

  16. Popbitch, notorious showbiz gossip newsletter, has been covering Schofield’s greasy shenanigans for _at least_ 5 years (this reported feud between Amanda Holden and Schofield from late 2018 is the oldest I have):

“The cause of the Holden/Schofield beef we told you about last week was revealed at the weekend. It seems Phil was the one who nixed Amanda’s chances at filling in for Holly while she is away doing I’m A Celebrity by pouring poison in the ears of the producers about her.

We should have guessed, as it’s not the first time he’s done it. Schofe is particularly fastidious about the people he’ll allow to cover for him or take regular slots on the show. If anyone looks like they’re starting to get too comfortable on set, he’ll start complaining to management.”

It sounds like the way he handled having a nonce brother soured it for him, but by the many other accounts over the years he sounds like a right fucking piece of work and I can imagine there were more than a few volunteers for the firing squad.

  17. I don’t understand why more people aren’t talking about the fact he groomed a minor working on this morning.

  18. “Schofield sucks a cock & he’s brave”.

    “I kiss a dancer & I get cancelled”
