Ciara Kelly: Why remote working will eventually disappear

  1. What a load of nonsense. I haven’t listen to the radio in ages but I don’t miss it reading articles like this.

  2. Ciara Kelly should stick to what she does best, and if anyone knows what that is; could you let her know so she can fuck off the radio.

  3. She’s probably right, until we start getting hit heavily with penalties on our climate targets, and then some Green will have the bright idea of ” what if anyone who can…works remotely”

  4. I’ve been WFH since 2012. I simply won’t work for a company that doesn’t facilitate this.

I don’t know this lady, but this attitude of “Get your asses back into the office” is juvenile, disrepectful, and short-sighted. But then, it is NewsTalk after all.

  5. “***Ciara Kelly: I have friends in commercial property and they tell me remote working will need to disappear or they will lose a lot of money”***

  6. Because billionaires aren’t making enough money essentially.

I think it’s here to stay, mainly because the public service is committed to it. So it will become a factor when people are deciding where they want to base their career.

  7. Those same companies would probably have no problems hiring an Indian fella working at home because it’s cheaper.

Any job where your sitting in front of a computer can be done at home and I don’t really see how it’s more efficient to have them come into an office.

There are certainly old school employers that don’t feel right having their employees under their nose, that’s their problem though.

  8. I love WFH – fuck the shitty commute and annoying small talk (“how was your weekend”) .. people have no interest in being there most of the time. We had our most profitable year in the company’s history during the pandemic. So the argument about productivity is rubbish.
Take the commercial spaces and turn them into housing and apartments!!

  9. “I don’t believe the reports and studies measuring productivity because…. My friend puts a wash on during the day and I can’t focus myself outside the office”

    Awesome take.

  10. Imagine listening to anything Ciara Kelly says. The radio equivalent of some pissed up aul wan pontificating in the smoking area.

  11. It won’t. People will change jobs and move companies to specifically have to as an option. Covid has permanently shifted the goal posts.
It’s nothing short of a revolution and the biggest threat to the professional managerial class as now they are serially exposed. It’s a huge reduction of their power in real terms and a democratization of the work place.

What will probably get more common is types of monitoring on work laptops. So if people are not working there will be a way to detect it.

There’s no way full office will come back. Some people will take pay cuts to get some form of remote working. Companies will lose talent to competitors.
The biggest threat to remote workers are people who aren’t doing a tap but plenty don’t do a tap when in office anyways.

  12. Ciara Kelly really fit perfectly into the Grade A bollocks that Newstalk churns out. Mad to think she was/is a GP, too.

  13. >listening to Irish radio
No thanks. I don’t like my blood pressure going up and down like a yooyoo, nor do I like listening to the cringe those gobshites produce called content.

  14. If the work can be done remotely it SHOULD be done remotely. Remote working is an easy win for reducing fossil fuel use. Instead of building commercial real estate maybe these people could build residential real estate.

  15. remote working will never disappear. It will become a more viable way of working.

The 5 day week will change. Ppl will do 4 days of 10 hours to have a three day weekend.

    Newstalk is BS
