  1. It’s been so over-used in so many shitty tv and video productions that, for me, it has lost its prestige. It also turns into a two week long earworm which I definitely do not enjoy. It’s a pity.

  2. It makes me very emotional and gives me chills. I haven’t been exposed to it as much in the recent years as I live abroad atm.

  3. “Fuck Russia. And Sweden too.”

Mostly it reminds about Finnish independence and identity. It is nice that we’ve had such a great composer.

  4. At my university Finlandia was used to signify that the party was over and it was time for everyone to go home. So hearing that doooooooo-dun in the beginning makes me very nostalgic but reminds me of fun times.

  5. Emotional. Makes me appreciate and remember the older generations that made this country possible for us. Makes me think of my grandparents that aren’t around here anymore.

I still prefer the Finlandia Hymn part [https://youtu.be/6YV0rgHhGn4?t=7](https://youtu.be/6YV0rgHhGn4?t=7) even more. Or this magnificent flashmob version [https://youtu.be/jaKko3VGAnY?t=26](https://youtu.be/jaKko3VGAnY?t=26)

Always brings a tear to my eye, no doubt about it.

  6. it gets me thinking about all the sacrifices the earlier generations have made (especially I think of my grandfather) and all we’ve endured as a people, and how far we’ve come. I get a sense of pride in my nation, and get a little teary-eyed.

  7. We were in Estonia at a male choir event with thousands of men singing different anthems and songs from the baltics and nordics. Whem Finlandia came up, not just all the estonians in the park stand up but all the freaking swallows (birds) started screeching and screaming and flying like crazy above us all.

    Only when Finlandia started.

And stopped right when it ended.

I sang the whole song in tears.

  8. Yeah great song, but not as national anthem. *Maamme* is better for that because it’s more joyful. We don’t have that too much in Finland.

  9. No jopas…

    *Video ei ole käytettävissä.*

*Studio Hamburg omistaa osan videon sisällöstä ja on estänyt sen näkymisen maassasi tekijänoikeuksien perusteella.*

  10. Well, there’s been petitions to make it the national anthem.

Without any ugly warmongering, or misplaced exceptionalism, it fills me with pride and humility, and a deep connection to the ones that were here before me. I also find it hard to describe accurately the feelings it evokes. This place is ancient, and alongside Sweden, it’s the least deforested place in Europe. Our language is in its own group. So when I stare out of my car window I see the same ocean of forests that my ancestors did. This helps me connect myself with those people.

I rarely listen to it with dry eyes.

  11. That why this is not our national anthem instead of just ok anthem composed by a German immigrant that we share with Estonia to boot.

  12. Basically walking home from the local bar after last call and telling my ex
