I don’t even know their names. But they tasted awesome! What else did I miss in terms of Latvian food?

  1. Well done, you ticked pretty much all the boxes.
This is what Latvians actually eat on a day-to-day basis.

Oh, You could have tried cheese Jāņu with caraway seeds though, it’s top notch.

  2. You really came to Latvia, started a war between Latvia and Lithuania because of aukstā zupa, and left.

But good choice in food! 🤗

  3. Omg, all I can say is malacis! You really got into that Latvian spirit, this is literally what we eat on a daily basis

  4. Good job. Really. Its impresive how much Latvian food you tried.

I would suggest for next time melnie zirņi ar speķi. I just love it and it looks like you didnt try it

I would also suggest go to folkklubs ala for food and evening party in latvian style. They have soļanka sundays, its the soup from 2nd pic (my favorite). They also have amazing lunches.

  5. Did you come to Latvia just for the food? I understand people having preferences, but this just seems a bit “omg Soviet Union! Omg Soviet food! Omg tell me about KGB”. Almost every American tourist comes to Latvia for “soviet union”, not for Latvia, and it’s extremely disrespectful.

  6. I applaud your choices, but IMHO you missed the best desert in Latvia – Maises Zupa. I have it whenever I come back to Riga. My only complaint is that they serve it in these tiny, dainty little cups. It’s soup, it’s right there in the name! I want it in a big freaking bowl!

ETA: And people were telling you to try it, too. I hereby revoke all the applause granted forthwith.

  7. I would never even touch most of the stuff pictured. It looks nasty AF and I say that as a fairly patriotic latvian. this food is just not it

  8. Great choice of food but awfully small portions. I guess the capital and has smaller portions.

But then again, that would explain why I am the size that I am…
