That seems pretty… benign? It’s just the normal head game people play when they’re in direct competition with each other.
I don’t see how it would be something aimed specifically at a woman in politics.
How is that being twisted to a gender issue here?
Seems harmless as far as political jabs go
Realistically, Cairns doesn’t have a safe seat. She has an incredibly vulnerable seat.
Currently Cork South West has Michael Collins as a poll topper with a quota and some change to himself. Hard to see him being shifted as he’s continued to throw red meat at his conservative base.
It has Christopher O’Sullivan for FF, and the party had a healthy 23% of FPV last time between him and Margaret Murphy O’Mahony. Again, hard to see him losing out with that level of support, it would take a significant drop.
Cairns managed to get in between Sinn Féin and Fine Gael. Fine Gael lost out because of Lombard’s disastrous electoral strategy there that saw the party win almost 19% of the vote and fail to take a seat.
Similarly Sinn Féin lost out on a seat despite slightly pipping cairns on first preferences. They didn’t translate the national surge to the local area, and all efforts will be made to avoid that again.
Cairns is in an awkward position, being squeezed by the left and right both looking to take her seat.
Being a party leader can be a boost, but it doesn’t make you in any way immune. Bacik as a first time TD is in a similar situation, but has the advantage that RTÉ is literally in her constituency. She can canvas the constituency and still make it to the TV and radio shows that you’re required to do as leader. Cairns will be doing a serious commute to hit media in Dublin and the doors in west cork.
I think she’ll manage it, but I wouldn’t be at all surprised if she lost her seat – even in circumstances where the party otherwise does well.
Ironically, it’s trying to construe things like this into a gender issue that will put voters off and cause her to lose her seat.
>I’m telling you this because as a woman in politics you’ll encounter this type of resistance
So she thinks other politicians only want her seat beacuse she’s a woman?
Fucking hell what a melt.
Fine Gaelers really are the worst kind of shit-people.
Why do they think flinging shit at each other is an acceptable alternative to governance?
We want housing not smug pricks trying to get one up on each other as a cover to hide their malicious occupation of the government.
