Yes, he “hosted” friends, he said we couldn’t get together for Xmas, birthdays, funerals, whilst love ones died alone in the hospital, gather at the park, gym or anywhere really. Sure he said we cant go to work or send kids to school but do you know what he never said?….. he never said you could not “host” friends, check mate.
Of course. After all, it’s well known that rules don’t apply to people like Boris Johnson and his ilk. He really has been holding us all in contempt. It’s staggering how flagrantly they broke the rules!
It’s actually getting difficult to withstand the normalisation of this, the Tory govt (and Johnson specifically) are so scurrilous.
My genuine reaction was “oh no not another” rather than the raw outrage it should be.
There is a story from a teacher during his time at Eton. A load of boys were caught doing something they shouldn’t and were all punished.
Johnson could not understand why he was being punished. He understood he had done something he was told not to, he understood he was caught, he understood the others deserved punishment for disobeying the rules, but he couldn’t not fathom why he was also being punished.
The teacher was at pains to try and explain his attitude logically but they just couldn’t. It isn’t that he believes he is special, he has clearly been brought up being told “you are different, you are special, you are above everyone else and should be treated as such”.
And they oversaw the decimation of the middle class, are responsible for pushing countless people into poverty. Are the cause of children going hungry. Caused thousands of unnecessary deaths through mishandling of the pandemic. Have ignited meaningless culture wars.
Their contempt for the public combined with their obvious ineptitude and even more obvious corruption has left our country with decades of damage to overcome.
But fuck me, having a guest over during the pandemic is where I draw the line.
