If you’re a private entity milking as much money from the public, expect to be milked by the staff too.
Why weekends when people are probably going on holiday? Why not week days when business travelers are more likely to use Heathrow?
Good.
Current levels of aviation are obscene, unsustainable, and incompatible with Paris agreement goals.
Every cancelled flight is a win.
Stopping three transatlantic flights saves as much co2 as an average Briton living with zero emissions for sixty years.
Probably not what the unions are going for, but I’ll take it.
Every group with a Union is striking which should tell you all you need
BBC are reporting that the unions turned down a 10%+ payrise, but as always with these things, it’s hard to find the actual truth behind the reporting. I do suspect, however, that not many people in other industries are seeing pay rises even close to recent inflation levels so 10% doesn’t sound so dreadful…
Anyone know what the truth of things really is? Is this downtrodden workers rising up, or power-hungry unions flexing muscles?
This is going to create absolute chaos at Heathrow.
I’ve already crossed off the following phrases from my Daily Fail headline bingo card:
Greedy unions
Marxist boss
Holding holidaymakers to ransom
Ruined childrens’ summer
Causing misery and chaos
Starmer refuses to condemn
Harry and Meghan latest outrage
Lovely Saint Kate wears a dress
Heathrow if you’re reading this i really don’t mind working on those days. I’ll work twice as hard as they do, Fuck it.
In return I get access to the premium lounges whenever i’m flying out of heathrow.
I don’t get it, all the fuss over 10%?
How badly do it effect the running of the airport? Do they have cover? Im due to fly from T3 on a strike day
Easy. Don’t fly out from Heathrow this summer then.
so workers will lose weeks of pay. They will then get a small bump in a raise over what they were offered. It will take 3+ years to make up for the money they lost in the strike. they will do it all again.
Do they not realize they will end up worse off?
Holy shit. I enter and leave the UK on the non-strike days. Lucky me, I guess.
That said, the last time I traveled through Heathrow during the strike the security “experience” was far superior to the norm. Perhaps this lot are better off staying home from travelers’ perspective.
Anyone know if this will delay flights or just affect security, check in etc? Fully support the strikes but don’t want to miss my ferry when I land in Greece hahaha
This country is a mess. I need to be in London mid-August on a weekend that typically has a massive closure of the west coast main line. Begrudgingly, I’ve booked a domestic flight. Cost under £100, but wasn’t a huge amount more than the closest alternative yet completely unreliable train and takes the stress and worry away of dealing with line closures and train staff strikes.
Now the airports are going to be absolutely fucked as well.
Just kill off a billionaire or two (or maybe just tax the rest of them appropriately) and pay essential workers. Fuck’s sake. This is a result of a decade of Tory cuts and Tory cunts.
Hopefully this will just hasten further automation so we can get rid of that useless security theatre troupe entirely.
Sorry, but in this case they have gone abit too far, the 10%+ pay rise they have been offered is much more than most have had this year. Including unions that have accepted pay offers.

Sounds good to me.
