Cleaned my number plate on Sunday before a 200 mile (round trip) journey in rural Scotland. I counted 5 flies splattered on it when I got home. Glorious summer, trees and flowers in full bloom, and I splatted 5 insects in 6 hours of driving. Equally anecdotally I can remember my dad in the 70s constantly having to clean the car windscreen to clear the insects splats. Even more anecdotally – it’s extremely worrying.
As people have been saying for 30+ years. Not that the government or farming industry are going to take any notice.
(And yes, it definitely is better than it was 30 years ago. But not by enough).
There’s more greenfly this year than I’ve ever seen. Greenfly poo is literally dripping from trees everywhere. It’s not sap it’s poo.
I wonder if they made the link in the article to the damage to insects caused by vegan food production….. hmmm….
Drove for 4 hours through the countryside: not 1 bug on the windscreen and only crows/ravens in the fields. I live in south west London and 20 years ago there used to be plenty of moths coming in at night. Last year I think I saw 2 during the whole Summer. There used to be plenty of bumblebees and bees buzzing in the lavender but no more. This truly is a silent spring, makes me want to cry 😢
