Vooruit survey: ’60 percent want to switch to French-language school calendar’

  1. Opmerkelijk. Vier jaar ervaring binnen het onderwijs. Het lerarenkorps in mijn school bestaat uit een vijftigtal leerkrachten. 90% van hen staat niet achter dit voorstel.

  2. No one wins from having two calendars, except for the tourism industry that apparently made a larger profit and politicians that want to further push to idea of linguistic separation. Argue about the benefits/disadvantages of either system all you want, but a country having two holiday systems for kids is almost as stupid as this fake language border in the first place. Apparently 88.7% of teachers, parents and children agree,.

  3. Father of two boys who was not for or against the new calendar.

I’m waiting until September to have a full opinion but at the moment:
There is no clear impact on the oldest, but I can clearly see the benefit of the long breaks on the youngest. He rests better and is in better shape when school starts again. That rythm seems to fit him better.
