  1. “the victim was simply in the wrong place at the wrong time, and it could have been anyone”

Such a shit statement, the victim or anyone else should be allowed to be where they were without fear of being attacked.

  2. > John Quilligan of Bay 4, Rathass Halting Site…Mr Quilligan is currently on social welfare, and neither he nor his family have been able to offer compensation to the victim

Well this will be a fun comment section until it’s locked my the mods

  3. You’d swear it was an accident and not a conscious decision to go up and punch him in the face for no reason.

  4. “He said Mr Quilligan is currently on social welfare, and neither he nor his family have been able to offer compensation to the victim due to their financial situation.”

“Judge Waters convicted Mr Quilligan and fined him €350 for the assault, with one day to make payment.”

I bet a wad of sweaty fifties came out from between his mammys dayglo bra holstered tits as soon as the judge uttered those words

  5. If he did this and went out of his way to better himself, offer compensation, apologise, etc, I’d be all for the slapped wrist. It seems that there’s been no effort to atone. Custodial sentence is warranted.

  6. What a slap in the face to the victim.

Sure, the next time this assaulter takes alcohol, it could be an elderly person

  7. It’s almost like the worse your crime in this country the less likely you are to get convicted over it.

  8. Psychology says you should jail him until he’s 27. Then let him out and if he reoffends lock him up for good.

  9. >The court heard that at 1:45am on 6th March 2022 on The Mall, Tralee, John Quilligan walked up the victim, who he did not know, before punching him in the face with a closed fist.

Not exactly the kind of psychopath you want walking the streets.

His address suggests that he may be part of a certain community that is not subject to the same laws as the rest of us

  10. Oh wow. Another immigrant. I wonder when the government will grow a pair and do something about them.

  11. What a fucking joke, an unprovoked assault like that should warrant jail time regardless. All that information that he was on social welfare, couldn’t pay the victim any compensation, lives in a halting site is irrelevant. I don’t care if he’s the son of Jesus Christ himself, he should be locked up after that, full stop. The rotten cunt.

  12. You really have to wonder about the mentality of a person who attacks a random person they don’t know on the street.
What reason is going through their mind? Some people just have violence in their hearts

  13. “He said this was taking into consideration that Mr Quilligan had no previous convictions, entered a guilty plea, and was under the age of 18 at the time. ”

So that makes it okay then?
    AH sure he was 17.

Imagine as the victim waiting 2years for it to come to trial, for only to end up like this.
Ireland REALLY needs to fix their shit before people are going to start beating the shit out of their attackers/assaulters/rapists after court says “ah sure he was underage/drunk/rough upbringing/good upbringing etc.”

Doesnt know the victim, punched in the face, falls on his head, leaves him on the ground.
Imagine being a good guard, wanting to help.

  14. Seems like good value for money. There are a few people I’d pay €350 to punch in the face.

And did no one ask him where a 17 yr old got the drink?
