oh god, the fucking hell to open a account in the fucking BOV as foreigner, a Maltese can open a fucking account in my country in 5 minutes with only the fucking Malta ID. but i was unable to open an account without a recommendation letter, a copy of the rental, a fucking copy of the contract, a payslip and a ton of bullshit, Malta post wasn´t better.
What don’t you like about HSBC? I have both HSBC and bov accounts and I find bov to be much more paperwork oriented and a lot more rigid.
I heard that APS gives better rates and better bank many times even friends took 60 thousand loan for better rates while other banks said no cause they just started working and a lot of bs. So ye I’ll probably open an account with APS later this year.
And that’s why banks are … And crypto will get more powerful and replace them in the future
Hsbc exists just to transfer money to revolut
Nailed it. HSBC honestly are just plain arrogant assholes riddled with conflicts on interest and crookedness.
Bov, where do you start .. they have declared war on their clients. If they applied to themselves the same standards they expect from their clients, they would not be in the shit they are in. Their problem is corrupt government and this was a problem under PN and now under PL… management full of dishonest appointees.. whole culture is riddled with corruption as well …
I moved everything to APS. They are decent and their employees are very helpful
What’s wrong with HSBC?
If only i could add my APS card to Google Wallet):
revolut wipes all of them
HSBC has made it known they want to leave the western market and focus on Eastern trade. I mean even so with Malta’s recent grey listing doesn’t make it any better but yeah… HSBC is the worst
3 months of constant calling and filling out forms for them to reject my business and personal accounts. 15 mins and everything was sorted via Revolut. Unfortunately Revolut have some restrictions now for opening new accounts (they’ve limited the number of accounts they open in Malta for businesses).
I had a HSBC Premier account while I was in Malta and I was very content. They opened the account in a matter of one week and I had a very pleasant experience all along. A friend of mine chose BOV and they didn’t even open the account for months.
HSBC is a bunch of idiots so I was an idiot back and maxed out my creditcard and left Malta.
if you are a foreigner it is not the banks problem. malta was greylisted. although we were removed from the list, the harm is done.
as a local i had no issues, maybe because i have a good history with the bank.
I actually like BNF, opening my account was relatively easy and I haven’t had any issues with them
(Let the language used allow you to understand my current level of frustration with the banking systems here.)
Have a Maltese bank for car loans and mortgages. But Revolut for living.
Not sure about many of you here, but during the day. I work! I know, shocking idea.
And working to me is not spending an hour on the phone during working hours for personal shit.

Maltese Bank: “We need to speak to you. call us between 10am-4pm – mon-fri”
Me: “I’m at work during those times, please email me your questions.”
Bank: “No we can’t use email, it’s insecure” Fair, but a little bit bullshit at the same time.
Me: “Ok, you have an internal email system, that I can access through my online banking. Ask me there.”
Bank: “No we can’t use that system, it’s insecure.” What the actual fuck! It’s secure enough for someone to move my funds! But not secure enough for you to ask me what turned out to be some fucking VERY basic questions!)

I get it. Malta is a very small market for banks and that makes their job hard. But unless they wake the fuck up, there will be no Maltese banks in 5 years, just online banks.
When I arrived in Malta, I got into APS and asked an employee how to open an account.
I was told it would require 2K blocked in the account to have the right to a debit card.
Serious question.. this post was about clients …
How long does BOV have before it crashes and burns? Is there too big too fail ? Coz the only thing big about BOV is their corruption.
Banks are being forced to increase their deposits. BOV cannot possibly be attracting deposits when it’s pays no interest and their service is pure vomit.
How can they stay open? And Will government let them increase mortgage rates and have their friends see their property bubble burst or prefer to see the bank implode first ?
Then you have the shareholders. If you are you, you are part of a very exclusive clubs of the world dumbest people!
And off course, the big question. What scandals is BOV hiding and what have they left off their balance sheet. Which of their assets are actually toxic liabilities?
And the cherry on top, why are BOV employees secretly advising friends and family to be ready for the worst?
