I have been in tesco once since they started this shit and that was to spend an all4one voucher(another pile of shit).
Supervalu are trying this now too..
Saw yesterday that boots has started this as well
I don’t understand why people are so pissed about this.
Clubcard prices are just the normal price with the non-clubcard price being hell overpriced.
They force you to hand over your consumption data to assist their marketing.
If you dont they penalise you with higher prices.
Computers run the show now. Without your data, your money is useless to the machine.
Normally I’m on here defending clubard prices. There are deals to be had, it’s not one for one that the clubcard prices are the normal price. Sometimes the clubcard price is what you would like to pay for it but with inflation gone mad, it seems unreasonable.
A few times on here someone has put up an example where the nonclubcard price looks inflated. But when you check Dunnes/Supervalu, it is the standard price and tesco have a genuine deal.
Tesco competes with Dunnes and Supervalu, not lidl and aldi. But some of their own brand stuff is as cheap as lidl/aldi.
Tesco fuel tends to be the cheapest where I live, and with the clubcard points, that’s a no brainer.
In saying all that, sometimes, they are ripping people off and it’s good to see action on this.
I wish someone would report all the irish supermarkets that dont display euro/kg or euro/ml.
So many have like bags of 6 tomatoes or 3 onions or 6 bananas and they give you the price per item. Totally useless information.
Went into Tesco to buy deodorant. €9. €4.50 with a club card. Even the lower price is a rip off.
People really need to calm down about the whole clubcard price thing. They aren’t inflated prices brought down to regular they have just put the deals behind the clubcard. I’ve had one for almost 10 years it just makes sense to have one for every store. If you don’t want to shop there then don’t. The data they are collecting is the most harmless data possible so just get the card and shut up.
It’s something thats rampant in other european countries.
I visited Lithuania in 2015 and everything from Restaurants to corner shops seem to have loyalty/club cards.
You literally can’t buy a can of coke without being over charged to fuck without one.
It’s just something that our overlords have picked up and are now rolling with it.
Except they wen’t a step further by literally offering you nothing in return of having a loyalty card, but punishing you hard for not having one.
It’s related to not showing unit prices for the clubcard deals, not the clubcard deals themselves. Which a lot here seem to be ignoring.
A complaint about this has been sent to the data commissioner
Can’t always trust when they do publish the cost per ml/kg. Noticed two brands of water, both 6×1.5l, one listed at €5.45 or €0.61 per litre and the other for €5.99 listed at €0.50 per litre recently.
Remember folks…. Tesco are an absolute shower
Anyone read the article?
It’s about how unit pricing should be better explained to consumers. It’s not about how clubcard prices are inherently unfair.
Tesco can fairly easily fix that without changing the clubcard prices one iota.
The main thing I dislike about it is for tourists or once off shoppers. For regulars it doesn’t really make a difference – personally happy for them to collect my shopping data if it leads to a better experience.
The largest increase in prices I’ve noticed is in their gluten free section….which is particularly evil as with the club card data they know coeliacs shop there a lot buying bread and pastas etc but now they have gone up by about 70% in the last year as they know they can ramp up the price and the people will simply pay it as they have very little other options
I honestly don’t understand why people in Ireland are against having Club cards
Went to buy sun lotion yesterday. 21 without a club card. Half price with a club card. Went to boots instead and got it for 9
I completely stopped shopping at Tesco. Dunnes is much cheaper than Tesco now.
I’m thinking it’s Brexit more than inflation killing them. I don’t see how they can compete here.
Went to boots to buy some vitamins, 1.50 for 30, 1.13 with card.
3.50 for 90, 3.23 with card.
All 4 prices labelled as “4p/tablet”, absolutely useless measurement.
I don’t care if Tesco is cheaper with a club card, I will avoid any place that offers discounts to those willing to hand over their data. When the cost of living is so high this is basically a subtle form extortion, if you’re living from paycheck to paycheck and don’t have the liberty of choosing where you shop instead needing to be more savvy then of course you’ll sign up to this, but you shouldn’t have to. I’m fine with discounts for spending X amount or vouchers if you rack up enough points, that is the reward of “loyalty” but gatekeeping cheaper prices should be illegal when it’s essentials like food.
Misleading pricing? Tesco? Surely not.
160 teabags in tesco €6.50.
160 teabags in supervalue €2.50.
Tesco are a rip off.
Been annoying me for months now. My sons nappies are 2 packs for €13 with clubcard… then they were 2 for €12, then for 2 for €10. Back to 2 for €13… his formula is almost €20
A tin now as well. Hate Tesco
