  1. For years the it manager has been the defacto fill the spaces with the right faces job.

No industry I’ve worke for has taken cyber security seriously, as it’s not a money earner.

You’d be worried to find out how much of the UK’s energy and services infrastructure is running on windows 98 machines or is left fully unlocked for any tom dick and Harry to play with.

  2. But IT is a cost to the business! They don’t actually do anything most of the time, and when something breaks, they take ages to fix it!

That’s the view of a lot of businesses and staff, unfortunately. We’re an invisible department most of the time because we keep things working.

Which means we’re generally viewed as something that costs the business money, and that cost should be reduced as much as possible… and then when things break or people bypass policies in place because it “takes too long to get something done,” it’s all our fault.

And I don’t see that attitude changing anytime soon.

  3. When are companies going to take responsibility for protecting my data.

This is the second time in 3 years zellis has been hacked. So my home address, bank details etc taken by hackers.

But god forbid the company actually trust me to leave work on time, they’d rather force us to use a clocking system that is god awful, outdated and unable to protect its customers data.
