Hi all,

I am currently planning to move from Belgium to Austria and therefor looking for some valuable tips and advice.

Moving to another country as a Belgian citizen is a big step and I think hearing from persons with the same experience or persons planning to move, will be a great help in my preparation.

Do you guys have any tips, advice or anecdotes about a move to another country?

For example:

Are there any essential documents or paperwork that I should not overlook?

Are there any specific requirements or recommendations based on your personal experiences?

\*A lot of the practical information I did find on [foreign affairs website](https://diplomatie.belgium.be/en)

Any help is appreciated, thank you in advance!

  1. Inform your bank, mutualiteit, insurance broker, energy provider, telecom provider,…

You will also need to inform your city that you moved out (can be done digitally) and register locally in Austria. You can opt to register at the Belgian embassy in Austria as well, in case you still want to vote etc.

You’ll also need to inform the tax authorities who will provide you with an ‘aangifte speciaal’ for the period Jan 1st until the date you move. You might have to file non resident income tax returns after that (depends if you have real estate, what the KI of that real estate is, etc).

Did you already land a job, or are you still searching?
