“A former senior garda officer has been arrested on suspicion of sex offences.
He was arrested today and is being questioned at a Dublin garda station.
The former officer has been under investigation for some time by local detectives in Dublin.
The investigation began following a complaint and interviews have been carried out.
He is being questioned about the alleged offences of rape and sexual assault.
The former officer served at a senior level in An Garda Síochána for many years.
Garda Headquarters confirmed this afternoon that a man who was a former garda had been arrested in connection with alleged offences under the Criminal Law (Rape) Amendment Act 1990.
The legislation covers serious sexual offences, such as sexual assault, aggravated sexual assault and rape.
Gardaí also said that the man was now a private citizen and was being detained at a Dublin garda station.
He is being detained under Section 4 of Criminal Justice Act and can be questioned for up to 24 hours.”

And there’s been a female guard being charged after breaking into another guards locker and stealing drugs that was taken in for evidence and the gobshite got caught because she posted the picture into the WhatsApp group chat
