Finnish road system: The reds are highways, the yellows are main roads and the greens are motorways

  1. Not completely irrelevant but what feels different than some other European countries is that sometimes there could be nothing in 50km distance in those red roads, and with yellow ones its more common to have nothing in between.
There are of course mökit and random farm houses but no stores, eateries or gas stations

  2. A key feature is the density in different parts of the country and the proportion of north-south roads compared to the east-west roads.

  3. With the taxes we pay we should have six parallel autobahns running north to south.
Instead our dear leaders have opted for the tactic of improving roads in Europe.

  4. Finnish highway network

    Motorways (moottoritie) in green

Class I highways (valtatie) in red

Class II highways (kantatie) in yellow

  5. I appreciate how they’ve built those green roads for the people trapped in that one dot by the southern coast. A show of societal solidarity trying to ensure those people have escape routes.

  6. Could yall explain what the difference between the motorways and highways? Theyre both 120km roads right?

  7. You can drive at 120km/h only in the southern highways between april and october. Otherwise the top speed is 100 or 80 on smaller roads.
