Hi guys. I’m really stucked about this question. I am 4th year medical student in Turkey, and I will go to Denmark for internship at the hospital department of Vascular surgery this summer. The duration is 2 months, and will not be extended. It will not be paid internship, I will cover all my expenses myself. Since I’m still student, I will have a supervisor with me all the time. I don’t know if I can attend surgeries in sterility, or just observe in scrubs. But for sure, I will not perform any serious medical intervention.

According to my acceptance letter, there is one objective like “to develop intoductory surgical skills necessary for treating vascular disease.” Because of this statement, I’m a little confused.

According to newtodenmark website;

• If your stay is shorter then three months, you are allowed to perform certain types of work-related activity even if you do not have a residence or work permit. Such activities, include teaching or attending a course or participating in meetings, negotiations, briefings and training.

• You need residence and work permit if you take part in creating a product or changing a product, or if you contribute to the output of a company in any way.

So I think I don’t need to have work permit, but I’m not completely sure. Also, I have no idea which type of short term visa I should apply for (Study or participation in eu education, training or research programmes, Business visa, prior approval of company etc). And unfortunately Danish Consulate in Turkey is not really helping.

May I ask, does anyone have knowledge on these matters?

Maybe this site can help for better understanding the procedures: https://www.nyidanmark.dk/en-GB/You-want-to-apply
