A sculpture in memory of Bulgarian citizens who lost their lives in the liberation of Slovakia in WW2.
The memorial states:
He who falls in the fight for freedom does not die.
To the heroic Bulgarian partisans who gave their lives for our freedom.

Bulgarian students, gardeners and farmers joined the operations against the German occupation forces and against the pro-Nazi regime in Slovakia. They did so in the ranks of the Nitra-based Partisan Brigade, the Jánošík Brigade (part of M. R. Štefánik Partisan Group), and other partisan groups operating at Kríž nad Hronom, Handlová, Kremnica, Banská Bystrica, Martin and in other places across Slovakia. Many of them died in action.
Partisans are terrorists that fought for a repressive ideology. So it is not really fighting for freedom when you change your opressors.
Яко. Благодаря, че сподели. Ще го посетя като ходя до Братислава.
Ahmmm… nice, but no, nope.
Basically Bulgaria joined the WW2 when we had no other choice and chose the side of Germany (and at that point USSR). The Reigh did not occupy Bulgaria (USSR did it lather) and the germans were received as friends with mutual respect, also kept up with their promises (for example Macedonia).
There in fact has been some partisan movement in Bulgaria but pretty miserable. Consisted mostly of criminals who are hiding from the police anyway and some serbs and others, supported by Britain and USSR. Don’t get me wrong, there were a bunch of bulgarian communists, but during that times they moslty used to live in comfort abroad. After a huge terrotist act of blowing a chirch several year earlier, most of the anyway few had been executed already.
No, while Germany was losing the war big time, the USSR declared war to Bulgaria, staged a coup, invided and occupied. The army that become chasing the germans (my grandfather including) was a regular amry of bulgarians, mobilized to fight alongside with the germans if needed (altrogh the king made his best to avoid that and as a gratidude was posoned by the russians).
No hard feelings, just as most ot the soviet monuments this is a bit wrong. Also we are deeply sorry our troops were envolved in fighting off the Prague rebellion 🙁
what partisans both were on the axis side
The other side of the coin…
That’s Bane crushing Batman, right?
