I’m working on a list of every country’s most iconic cult film (list here: https://boxd.it/n5ZFs) and wondered if anyone could help me figure out Belgium’s entry.
I’m looking for a film that might not be well-known outside the country’s borders. Perhaps it’s a film everyone knows, and is hugely popular only to Belgian audiences, even if it wasn’t popular with critics. Or maybe it’s a film that wasn’t well-received by audiences or critics, but has gained a cult following in the years since its release.
Any suggestions would be most welcome!

  1. In recent history i really liked “De Zaak Alzheimer” and “Torpedo”

From my childhood i really liked “De Leeuw Van Vlaanderen”.

  2. The right answer is absolutely C’est arrivé près de chez vous, but I’d give JCVD an honourable mention. Not cult by far, but will be regarded as such down the line.

  3. True story: i was in Berlin recently and started talking to some people who instantly said their favorite movie ever was belgian after i said where i was from.

It was Ex-drummer and it’s well deserved.

  4. Man Bites Dog is one of Tarantino’s favourites of that era, iconic actor/director and pretty sure ‘Man Bijt Hond’ was named after it.

  5. To add. So many good movies.

  6. Whenever I think ‘cult film’ I automatically think of B movies. In that case either Intensive Care (Dutch co-production), or Rabbid Grannies
