Hello! Was little startled today when got notification from air-quality app. Can you really trust those numbers? Why air in Cyprus such polluted? What do you do when the air is in such state, do you stay at home?
It’s dust in the atmosphere. It happens from time to time due to Cyprus being close to the Sahara and the Syrian desert.
If you have allergies/asthma/any other respiratory issues, wear a mask or stay at home. Otherwise going outside is mostly just going to cause some irritation (just don’t stay exposed too long).
Yeah to repeat what others have said, this isn’t pollution, this is a dust cloud. If you or your pets have respiratory problems, be careful
Also, the air quality deprtment is a bunch of bullshit. Their equipment can only measure a radius of 100m from their location and should not be used to determine the quality of where you currently are. It is only required to have 1 of those in CY, yet we have more than 9. Bunch of money-wasting apes is what we have. I wonder whose cousin is the person who imports and/or performs maintenance on this equipment.
I was woken by my home assistant alarm, that PM2.5 is above any reasonable threshold.
I’ve turn all filters (in each room) to max, got down to 50-something (from 350+).
If you don’t have one, get.
Dust bro I’ve been dying 😭 asthmatic with horrible allergies, I finished 2 tissue boxes since the morning
Thank you for your post. I actually run air purifiers in my house (big Xiaomi one for the living room and cheap IKEA ones [hacked and now running with ESPHOME] with HEPA-12 filters in smaller ones). These PM levels are worrying but easy to deal with, as others pointed out.
It happens from time to time. Regardless of this, I do recommend air purifiers, especially if you do cook a lot at home.
Always get headaches on these days
Isn’t a large part of this the warning we had about the Mt. Etna eruption a few days ago? Wind is blowing from it to us. As per this post.
