Man hides Britain’s largest model train set from girlfriend

  1. hate fox news, but love me some trains. Nothing more British than some middle aged bloke building his own model-railway.

  2. Gentlemen, please be more honest about your passions and don’t date someone who wouldn’t appreciate them.

Model trains are cool and any woman who won’t date you for that, isn’t worth your time.

  3. I have a large permanent model train railway setup in the games room. My partner has no opinion on it one way or the other. Love my collection of 48DS trains. It’s my chill zone.

  4. OK so he hid it at first because he didn’t want to look nerdy to his new GF, when she discovered it she was fine with it. Fox news still at the cutting edge of news reporting I see…

  5. Ah this story has rolled out again. They find someone up or down the country and run a story again

  6. I have several model trains in mint condition that I’m looking to sell. Any recommendations for the best place to post an advert?

  7. So this guy said he had a job that he didnt, and not only did he not have the job (lied about it presumably) he dropped USD 300k on the railway?

    Holy red flag Batman!

  8. Now, if she can only stop him from shouting ‘CHOO CHOO’ when he climaxes, this can be a perfect relationship

  9. A guy who has ‘rent a building to store my wine’ money really doesn’t need to worry about his GF finding out he likes model trains.

  10. May sound stupid but I wonder if it’s a form of addiction and that’s why some people hide it?

When my dad separated from my mum, he got into model trains and easily/happily spent over £10k within 2 months on an entire set. But the thing is, there’s no end. You can expand, adapt, and grow it for months & years.

My dads collection has now sat in boxes for about 2 years now lol

  11. There’s been a build thread running on pistonheads.com since he started this, so hardly a secret.

I suspect this is some kind of marketing campaign in advance of them taking the set on tour.

  12. I appreciate that we shouldn’t have to hide hobbies from our partners, but let’s be clear, he apparently spent $330k (£260k) that is a little different…

  13. Find yourself a partner that shares interests. My partner and I have a shared hobby and our own separate ones as well. It’s nice to bond over the shared one but also have our own to indulge in should we want to do our own thing

  14. This is a British guy, who’s building a British train set, yet this “MURICA FURST!!!” fox article talks about how many US dollars he spent, rather than British pounds. /r/USDefaultism

…and don’t give me the bullshit of “This is a US publisher!” Every other country is able to grasp the idea of other currencies, but not UH-MER-A-CANS!

  15. Andrew Tate and all of the masculinity influencers can move the fuck out of the way. This is the ultimate alpha move.

  16. I have a crazy fan theory about the largest secret model train set in America. It exists in New Mexico and is more than partially responsible for why we have not and will not get Winds of Winter and Dream of Spring. Go on. Some one prove to me that’s not what George secretly spends his time doing when he isnt busy writing anything other than ASOIAF book content.

  17. I saw this on display at Wakefield town hall last year.
It’s pretty impressive how big it is, but being a scale model of a real railway line it is quite plain, while at the same time being very detailed.

  18. So hang on, you lie to your girlfriend about your hobby and you spend a literal fortune on it and she just accepts it and still agrees to marry you? He better own his own home or she will rightly be peeved about where he directed that money.
