“The main reason behind these abuses, is because there isn’t enough enforcement from the authorities, and people are hardly ever fined. Furthermore, due to a lack of surveillance, those reported all too often know that they can get away with illegal dumping and littering” – https://www.maltatoday.com.mt/news/national/68988/local_councils_clamp_down_on_littering_and_illegal_dumping_

The main problem is not enough garbage cans. In the photo provided, put a garbage can there FFS. Disney world did a study on this. No amount of enforcement could fix this but making it more convenient and cleaning up existing messes will go a long way.
Why can’t you behave yourself like a civilized person instead of needing someone to baby sit you?
I was went to marsascala and collect 10 rubbish bags of litter. The day after it was full of bear bottles and rubbish again. I felt like I wasted my day cleaning up. Authorities are… Well there is none… Local councils are a joke, they get elected to heat up the chair and get tax payers money, and there is simply no enforcement or education.
The saddest part… this is definitely “local” trash… hard to imagine tourist ever get into position when s/he needs to discard a tire. Considering how much money Malta makes from tourism… discarding trash like this is text book definition of “cutting branch one sits on”.
I am sorry but I do not fully agree with the argument that people litter because there is no enforcement from the authorities.
Why do I need to go in the countryside or by a shore to throw away my appliances when I can do it for free at a designated site? Or even more so a lot of bulky refuse can be picked up from your home for free as well!
This is all due to ignorance and stupidity of people who somehow find it satisfying throwing stuff away in places like these.
As for small items like beer cans, what would it cost you to bring a small bag with you and carry empty ones back? You bothered bringing them with you while these were still full, why not take them back?
It is solely due to this attitude that such places are littered. Enforcement is just an excuse in my opinion.
Why is there not enough enforcement from the authorities when it comes to *[insert civil issue here]*?
there are not even enough garbage cans for”normal” waste… sometimes i have to carry my waste for a my really long time till i finally find a garbage can 🙄🤦🏼♀️
and with all the CCTV it’s ridiculous that they can’t track them back… but give you a fine when you bring your bag 1 day before out because you go in vacation 🤷🏼♀️
It is almost certain those objects were not thrown there, but in the sea and were swept ashore. What’s your proposal? CCTV all around the coast of Malta?
The mentality is still that of “mum will clean it up”. Have you ever looked down from the cliffs at Dingli? There’s s a spot where I counted like five cars dumped beneath the cliffs.
The only solution is harsher fines and the confiscation of the vehicle if it was used to dump trash anywhere. Education helps but littering is still a problem.
Because the swines who litter vote.
Correcting your title: Why is there not enought enforcement from the authorities when it comes to the problem of {{Add anything you want in here}}.
Malta has such a big litter problem, i just don’t understand how people can live like this
This particular trash probably comes mostly from the see but it is very true that there is a big littering problem. I’ve seen places 10 times worse even inland.
Edit: everytime I go to the beach, I collect as much rubbish that I can.
The authorities are trash and don’t want to take themselves out, so they keep trash everyone. Simple!
