Anyone remember this lad from last summer? The guy who built a house on a boat. Where did he park it up during the winter? Is it still functional? I thought it was really cool myself.

  1. Except for being connected to the grid, I’ve seen quite a few examples of this kind of thing in the Netherlands.

    Price-wise, it’s cheaper than an apartment, but probably not as long-lasting. The maintenance costs are likely to be higher. The main thing preventing this being much more common in Malta is probably the lack of safe harbour facilities for these to exist in large numbers (most harbours being full of actual boats).

  2. Imagine, if you will, a multitude of those boat houses (intentional use) all moored close or to each other with passage rights on each other and you get Malta’s newest nightmare…..The Floating Favelas of Malta to be found at every accessible shoreline in Malta.

    Nightmarish.

    Because someday it might really happen.

    That’d be a good day for a Med Super Tsunami.
