The Republic funds the places, but they don’t have to work in the South when they graduate.
Bailing out the NI government already? While the MLAs continue to sit back and get their salary doing absolutely nothing for ages.
Sign of things to come.
Ireland historically exported many would-be nurses to Britain.
Maybe a competent government would look to expand training facilities in Ireland to account for the future poor situation the NHS will find itself in, particularly as the British don’t seem to be interested in investing for their own future
What the fuck are we doing this for. Let the politicians in the North get their act together and sort out their own budget and stop pissing our tax money away.
What is the goal here? Recruit more nurses?
This does not address the issue of nurses not being able to afford to live in the areas they are needed.
Classic throwing cash at the wrong solution to a problem.
I dont’t mind funding this, or other projects, in NI as long as the ROI is adequetly *and publicly* credited all along the line – same as we do for EU funding (note that the UK never did this, helping the ‘what have the EU ever done for us’ narrative).
The ROI must be seen by all to be putting money into NI, and be seen as a responsible (and generous) partner.
