Someone stole the front wheel off my bike, and then obviously someones whole bike. What do I do? There is a camera looking at my bike and it’s in a “secure” lockup carpark with security monitoring.

  1. Literally only bought the bike like 3 weeks ago. Building management isn’t back until Monday morning but I have their contact details. Do i go to the guards, or am i wasting my time?

  2. For anything to happen, you gotta report it (or at least try to), you need to to get camera footage before system recycles and management company (universal dickheads) probably won’t help unless Gardaí make them.

In my lived experience, it’s nearly always someone connected to the building in these situations. You will never prove it though. The random opportunists don’t need to risk going in to confined places.

Also lift your damn bike up the stairs in future, like I do. Bike 13 KG, New York Bike lock 2.5 KG, plus whatever other crap I am carrying at the time 🤷‍♂️

Also please tell me you got a pic of serial number from bike. My bike coincidentally 3 weeks old too. Last one (many many years ago), was stolen from inside double gated Apt car park, and I couldn’t do shit because I found when it happened I was illegally subletting 🤷‍♂️ 😂

  3. No matter how secure the area if your bike is outside there’s a good chance someone will try stealing it.

As others have said bring it inside. If that isn’t an option make it a pain in the hole to steal. Secure both wheels to the frame and then secure the frame/back wheel to the lock up area.

Even if its three or four locks just do it. I see you have a decent U lock there. Get another and a couple of heavy chain locks from Halfords. The thief will take one look at yours and move onto the next bike.
