  1. I wonder if the older heavier balls that collected water more increase the risk more than balls today? The game has also become less physical so big knocks are rarer than they used to be.

    That said as an 12/13 year old I remember heading a football and if you didn’t do it right it could stun you slightly

  3. I would be interested in a study to find out if strikers and central defenders (the players mostly likely to head the ball frequently) are more prone to it than other positions (e.g. wingers, goalkeepers).

  4. There’s a lot of epidemiological data suggesting that head trauma is a significant risk factor for dementia. Its been recognised in a number of other sporting professions including boxing, american football, MMA, and rugby.
