Concern over threat posed by new antibiotic-resistant sexually transmitted diseases

  1. I’m surprised by the 122% increase in HIV, isn’t prep available now? More surprised that people have seemingly found a location to have sex. Lotta 20-40 something year olds have moved back into the family home to cement the end to their love lives

  2. Stories like this may become the norm over the next decades. The abuse and overuse of antibiotics may well see the undoing of one of modern medicines greatest achievements. Indeed it’s somewhat inevitable as antibiotics cause evolutionary pressures towards resistance.

  3. How much of this is related to increased testing? I suspect we are detecting more cases that would have otherwise not be reported since the introduction of the SH:24 home testing service.

  4. A massive uptick in 2022, compared to COVID-impacted 2021, doesn’t seem it should be that much of a shock. The HIV comparison with 2018 is interesting though, might be demographics alone but I’d be curious to know if people are quicker to get tested now than they were 5 years ago.

  5. A sexual health clinic nurse recently told me that certain spikes are attributable to new demographics being introduced to Ireland. Surprised they haven’t mentioned it here.

  6. Wow crazy times.. I wonder what kind of chemical exposure has happened in the last couple of years that could have possibly attributed to huge increases in hiv and antibiotic resistant viruses. Lol
