Liz Truss on Brexit: UK’s new negotiator said Britain would be better off remaining in EU

  1. Boris Johnson is an opportunist. If three months from now his political survival needs it, you’ll see him campaign for Rejoin wholeheartedly. A Brexit negotiator with former Remain stances lowkey prepares everyone for such a scenario.

  2. She’s a political opportunist devoid of any integrity. Pretty much describes most of the UK government

Brexit ends political careers because of the impossibility of both appeasing delusional pro-Brexit MP’s and protecting the UK’s interest. At best you can obfuscate, bluff and stall for a while but eventually you’ll find yourself being forced to choose between causing significant damage to the UK, being removed from power by pro-Brexit MP’s or resigning in the manner you think will work best given the circumstances.

When the UK government eventually conceeded on the role of the ECJ in Northern Ireland Frost chose to resign to protect his pro-Brexit credentials with Conservative MP’s.

Truss has inherited that poison chalice and I suspect this is the beginning of the end for her leadership aspirations. The political capital she earned from her crap trade deals is unlikely to be enough to save her.

For once Jobnson might have actually demonstrated some political savvy and took down a threat to his leadership.

  3. That was then, this is now.

She’s done a great job negotiating trade deals, making the most of what reality is instead of whinging about what she wanted it to be.

  4. Why are people surprised by this? She’s a conservative MP and the Conservative Party were on the side of Remain during the referendum.

  5. So did Boris Johnson.

Strange how once you’re in power and being paid no matter what that you completely change your stance to what your party want, isn’t it?

Almost like politicians are professional liars.

  6. ah yes they must miss the rampant inflation in the EU or maybe they miss the dick-less approach to matters concerning russia & china.

you dont know what you have til its gone i guess…

  7. Foreign Secretary is a curious position in modern British governance. On the one hand it has all the glamour and cachet associated with holding the job that Canning and Palmerston held but on the other nowadays any major foreign matter sees the PM bully his way in with the Foreign Secretary reduced to being a kind of disregarded Minister of state.

We’ll see if the current Foreign Secretary will be allowed lead on this which is the biggest Foreign policy issue facing Britain…its relationshi[ with it European neighbour. I’ll predict now that she won’t be allowed a coffee break without No.10’s permission.
