Turns out there’s a reason we don’t let kids drive motorised vehicles on roads, who knew?
I’m getting the feeling that these unregulated e-bikes might not be the best mode of transport for teenagers
Sounds like attempted rage bait to repeat the appalling riot scenes in Cardiff.
I live locally to where this happened. He is almost certainly from a prolific group of wannabe roadmen who ride around in balaclavas committing petty crime, bricking windows, doing wheelies into traffic, etc. It’s surprising that it took this long for something like this to happen, it absolutely is not a case of “evil police” that caused this.
Why the fuck is this front page breaking news on the BBC? BBC literally baiting a riot…
The content of the piece makes it clear it’s a complete non story, but the leading line is just straight up inflammatory
Seriously, Ukraine has launched its offensive in strength today and the BBC chooses to prioritise this? It would be barely regional news even if he was actually run over by the police.

In a truly shocking revelation, messing about on busy streets with an illegal vehicle can end badly. Who knew?!
It’s the reason we’ve got such a massive problem with teenage motorcycle thieves in the UK now, police are terrified to chase them because if they come off and hurt themselves the police will be painted as the villains and the kid as a totally innocent victim of brutal policing measures.
The kid was running from police, it’s obviously horrible what’s happened, but he was old enough that he should’ve known the risks and consequences of his actions. We don’t want to end up in a situation where anyone under the age of 18 is allowed to go around doing what they like and the police aren’t allowed to take measures to stop them.
These “e-bikes” are just small motorbikes, with electrical power instead of a ICE. A typical pedal assisted e-bike will produce about 80nM of torque, whereas these e-dirt bikes (which aren’t pedal assisted) will put out about 500nM of torque.
Can’t we finally agree that e bikes and e scooters are here to stay and just bring in some regulations regarding how they should be used and ages etc.
The issue isnt going away it needs proper regulation.
The headline as I’m reading it (“Teen on e-bike dies after being followed by police in Salford”) is clearly trying to draw parallels between this and the Ely crashes that caused the riots.
The common thread is that kids died on e-bikes on the road. The fact that the police **weren’t** actually the ones in the collision is glossed over in favour of stirring the pot a bit.
I bet the little scally wasn’t wearing a helmet. These things and electric scooters need to be licensed like driving cars and helmets need to mandatory like on motorcycles.
Can’t fault the police here. There’s a big difference between defending police vs actively wanking yourself off over a dead minor. Some of these comments are demented. Just a shitty situation all round, regardless of fault
i was driving behind one the other day doing 35 mph , it was doing a similar speed
I look forward to seeing whether this lad had a criminal record or not, and what his family are like. To me it looks like he was up to no good / playing chicken with the police and wasn’t looking where he was going. Act like that and there’s always a risk of coming to harm.

You have to admit that being hit by an ambulance is an ironic way to go…
Play stupid games. These electric scroterbikes are a menace and it’ll take plenty more like this before it begins to get resolved.

Guardian headline: *Boy, 15, on e-bike dies in collision after being followed by police*
Body text: *The force said: “A short time later a road traffic collision occurred between the e-bike and an ambulance on Langworthy Road*
Fuck off, Guardian headline writer.

The trouble with using the word e-bike most of the public think it’s a bike that can’t exceed 15mph, but it covers the illegal ones that can go 60mph+, like we differentiate mopeds and motorbikes, the same should be done for e-bikes so it’s clear to people that some kids are riding death machines illegally and putting them selves in danger
Live literally 2 mins from this vigil, been hearing sirens and helicopters all day, saw a bunch of unmarked police cars as well.
Not much to say about this kid other than poor stupid bastard, unfortunate he died before having a chance to do a bit of growing up and figuring out he’s not going to go far living the way he was
Lets hope the vigil doesn’t escalate like those idiots in Wales. Disinformation is a dangerous thing.
Being a prat, running from the plod, wearing no gear and clearly blind as a bat seeing as he went full send into the side of the biggest yellowest thing on the road…
