The Sliema apartment shared by around 40 migrant workers

  1. Is this the economic model that we wish to sustain? One that exploits poor foreigners and traps them in these living conditions bereft of dignity and privacy?

This so-called progressive so-called socialist government is anti-life in every respect. From creating an approved social landscape that exploits foreigners, to playing with the lives of those that traverse the Mediterranean, to (hopefully not) opening the door to the death of the unborn.

  2. 8,000-10,000 a month… are they registered with the housing authority? (hehe kiela l-ghatba nahseb jirregistra ir-renta) – btw if you try to register a legal normal rent, get ready for over a month to get it done, because when they decide to reply, they send a vague reason what you have to change. much easier and worth it going 4hrs in a queue with papers in hand, than electronically – every fucking time.

  3. How is it possible 40 people live in one apartment? According to the article there isn’t even enough beds for everyone…

I can’t believe the tenants even accept to pay 250 each for an appartment shared by 40 people…half of which either share a single bed or sleep on the floor?

  4. Throwing my support to all the comments above. You recognize the hypocrisy of a government of thugs and criminals that pretends they are running some caring nanny state but are in fact some of the most evil people on this planet.

  5. Worst of all, this matter which is in the headline of one of Malta’s most prestigious newspapers, will not be investigated and will be left as it is. It will even be forgotten in a few days and more greedy businessmen will continue to exploit from these poor people.

  6. Completely normal, housing authority is a joke like any other government department. Locally they are European but Malta is not even among the five best African countries.

  7. How is this possible? I ve been working here for 6 years and getting a residence card has always been an issue. How come 40 people gets registered to same address?

  8. Owner pays for the conversion, Frendo runs the racket, and they each take a cut. It’s the OG organized crime with some cold cash in hands for the approval papers he says he has. No way the papers match the practice. It’s sad that it’s even an improvement for a poor Bangladeshi, if what u/Malteser88 says is accurate about cardboard and cockroaches. Bolt drivers, etc., you know? The government needs to figure out how to provide or grow affordable housing for low income individuals and families. Increase minimum wages, or regulate the drive and deliver companies to enforce a higher pay share per ride. People need to get paid.

And you know that Frendo fella’s got more than one grift going. If he’s doing that, there’s more slimy deals in that guy’s files.
